Choose one poem that has been assigned for reading this semester in our course. Write a poem that imitates the poem you have chosen. You should imitate the form of the poem. Form means how the poem is written. Form means the specific language used. Form means the line breaks. Form means the tone. Form means the music of the words. Form means the rhymes. Form means the figurative language: metaphors, similes, symbols, irony, etc. Form means the syntax and grammar. Form means the style of the language. You can write about any content you want. Form does not mean content. Your poem does not have to address the time period or place that we’ve studied this semester. You can write about any current or past topic. In other words, discuss how imitating the original’s form lead to the choices you made in your poem. This should not be a description of the content or meaning of your poem. It should be a description of the form. Form is not content.
