What is our collective responsibility to mitigate climate change.

Please complete the following:

Many argue that we have a collective responsibility to mitigate the ongoing and potential harms of climate change. What, if any, are our individual moral obligations to mitigate these harms?

Formulate a one sentence moral principle that reflects your view. e.g. “individuals are morally obligated not to emit more than x tons of carbon a year” or “individuals should publicly reproach elected leaders for accepting money from the fossil fuel industry.” Alternatively, you can formulate a conditional moral claim, e.g. “if an individual lives in America, they are morally obligated to x.”

Give two reasons in support of your claim, and respond to one possible objection. Be purposeful and concise in your writing. You are welcome to restate an author’s argument, e.g. Booth’s argument “we are morally obligated not to be bystanders to climate change” but should be specific about what you think counts as bystanding, and offer at least one original reason for why that kind of bystanding is wrong.
