You will identify a child/adolescent (not a relative) (age 8-17) whom can benefit from short-term counseling focused on developmental/social skills (avoid clients that have a history of hospitalization) You can choose a fictional child/adolescent from a movie or a book. (List of movies will be sent as an attachment.)
Intake & Background Information
Gather intake information and establish therapeutic relationship. Include the following information:
• Client Background Information: Collect information from your client and write a summary covering cultural information (i.e., gender, age, racial/ethnic background), descriptive information, health issues, educational grade and progress, activities with family and friends, as well as other pertinent information. Discuss potential issues/concern(s) that the two of you will focus on and any previous efforts to address the concern(s). Explain how you were introduced to client. *Include Intake in appendixes.
• Family/Community Genogram:
Develop a genogram of your client depicting birth order and family relationships/roles among household members (significant non-household members may be included). You may include in the diagram, community organizations and members (e.g., minister, youth leader) who play a supportive role in your client’s life. Write a summary of what you learned about your client from this process. *Include Genogram in appendixes.
• Complete the House-Tree-Person Test:
Write a summary of what you learned about your client from this activity. *If art based, include House-Tree-Person Test in appendixes.
• Theory:
o Discuss how your client’s concern(s) relate(s) to a developmental theory we discussed. Include evidence.
o Identify a counseling theory that might be an appropriate theoretical approach for the counseling relationship, as well as your client’s presenting concern and explain why the counseling theory would be appropriate.
