Why do you feel that the Strategic Position and Action Evaluation (SPACE) matrix is useful in health care? How can you help a healthcare facility develop adaptive strategic alternatives using SPACE?

As you are responding to others, note any common insights you may have with your peers. What are your peers’ opinions of your strategic alternatives using SPACE here?

Please include the name of the person or question to which you are replying in the subject line. For example, “Tom’s response to Susan’s comment.”

As a leader in the medical community, do you believe that having free health care is a basic human right and you should advocate for free medical care?

For this assignment, research a medical care system that is provided within a foreign country (not in the United States). For example, you can conduct an Internet search by looking up phrases such as “health care in Germany.”

Once you have examined the medical care system in that country, address the following questions in your essay:

  • Provide a brief introduction. What country did you select, and how do they provide medical care to citizens?
  • What do they offer or do not offer when compared to the United States system? Does their system appear “more ethical”?
  • What workplace laws or regulations are in place? How does law impact healthcare professionals of that country?
  • Do you believe their laws contradict or support the professional obligations of a medical provider? What parameters are in place to address topics such as death and dying, quality of life issues, or right to life issues?
  • As a leader in the medical community, do you believe that having free health care is a basic human right and you should advocate for free medical care? Support your position with an example based on legal or ethical perspectives.

If you were a manufacturer of one of the drugs, would you voluntarily disclose the study information? Why or why not?

Stanford University medical researchers conducted a study on the correlation between the use of fertility drugs and ovarian cancer.  Their study, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, concludes that the use of the fertility drugs, Pergonal and Serophene, may increase the risk of ovarian cancer by three times.  The lead author of the studies, Professor Alice Whittemore, stated, “Our finding in regard to fertility drugs is by no means certain.  It is based on very small numbers and is really very tenuous.”

FDA Commissioner David Kessler would like the infertility drug manufacturers to disclose the study findings and offer a warning on the drug packages.  He notes, “Even though the epidemiology study is still preliminary, women have a right to know what is known.  We’re not looking to make more of this than there is.”

If you were a manufacturer of one of the drugs, would you voluntarily disclose the study information? Why or why not?

Use at least two (2) academically reviewed journal articles as research for your response fully discuss this question.

What are Jason’s options? Can he accept a risk management program that does not involve the legal department?

write a response to the following questions. Make your response substantial by giving additional information, insight, or evidence to consider.

1. What are Jason’s options? Can he accept a risk management program that does not involve the legal department?

2. Do you agree with George’s arguments? Are they valid?

3. How would you proceed, if you were the risk officer?

Compare and contrast the perspective on the issue. How are the articles similar or different on how they expose the issues?

The articles should be news articles, written by journalists for publication in newspapers or on news, websites (cannot be blogs or commercial sites). They may also be transcripts of news stories that were broadcast on television or radio. The article can be different versions of the same issue published in different countries.  Many articles from other countries are supplied to library databases from the BBC Monitoring Service, which does no reporting of its own but collects articles from around the world and translates them into English (if they are originally in another language.) For these articles, there will be an indication of which newspaper, website, radio station, etc., was the original source of the article, and in which country it is located. This would be the country of origin.

Your responses should be well-rounded and analytical, and should not just provide a conclusion or an opinion without explaining the reason for the choice.

For full credit, you need to use the material from the week’s lectures, text and/or discussions when responding to the questions. It is important that you incorporate the question into your response (i.e., summarize the case in your introduction) and explain the principle(s) or concept(s) from the text that underlies your judgment.

Prepare a case study report that has three main parts:

  1. Summary and Overview of the issue
  2. Compare and contrast the perspective on the issue. How are the articles similar or different on how they expose the issues? What are the explicit and implicit issues?
  3. Taking from the emergent literature (only journal articles or textbook), what are some of the implications and recommendations for conducting international business.
  4. Write at least two questions that can be exposed (still without an answer) from analyzing this issue. These inquiries can be questions/issues that you were not able to answer or understand. Clarify where or how do you believe you can obtain this information. Mention specific sources (do not simply say, “Searching on the Internet”).
