This is a three-page essay focused on one or two scenes. Craft a thesis on a select scene or two from Akira that draws from the secondary works by Allison or Napier. Develop your essay by describing and analyzing how the anime-as-media communicates the thesis you choose. Think about drawing style, lighting, color, music, voice, editing, mise-en-scène, camera angles and style, as well as story. Ask yourself: how is the story being told audio-visually? And then communicate/analyze that. Have a conclusion that is neither too big nor too small. This assignment is designed to get you analyzing anime as media, while also being able to think about historical and theoretical ideas with a concrete example. Focus on mastering what we’re covering in class. Outside research is not required.

For context and to support your assertions, you must cite at least one work we’ve read: either Napier or Allison. Please use Turabian notes-bibliography citation system for citing sources. The final submission for your project includes developing a PowerPoint presentation with
embedded audio files. Each slide must contain an audio file in which you offer insight to the
material in the slide and key points the professor should take away from the visual
information in the PowerPoint. You should minimize repeating points made in the slide other
than emphasizing important components. To put this simply, please do not read the slides
verbatim but make sure to add value to what is presented on the slide to improve the
understanding of your work. The presentation with audio is a significant component of the
final submission, so please makes sure to offer your best work, speak clearly, emphasize the
strategic implications of your work, and engage the viewer.
Executive summary (compiled with concise and critical elements from the detailed work)
While done as a last step, this goes in front of the report, after the index. A final and
all compassing analysis is presented, along with the recommendations that you would
make to the firm’s board of directors. This includes identifying what you recommend, and
briefly outlining alternatives considered, key implementation steps, and the impact of the
implementation on the company’s performance and competitive position.

As an employee of a company that is considering investing in a foreign economy, you have been asked to research a country and make a presentation to your colleagues about an area of economic concern in the country.
Select a country in Africa, Asia, or Latin America to research.

Scenario 1—International Trade
The Director of Purchasing for parts distribution company wants to purchase steel coach screws from Germany; however, he is not sure what the best option is. The director comes to you and asks your opinion. You know that Germany, Canada, and Korea are the best sources for obtaining this product. While your research shows coach screws from Germany are of the highest quality, the United States imposes a tariff of 12.5%, which makes this option noncompetitive.
• Which US trade laws should you consider when selecting a country?

Scenario 2 – Bribery
Slyce Pizza Company purchased four commercial refrigerators for the restaurants and eight pizza ovens from a supplier in Italy. Between the shipping costs, delays, and unanticipated duties, the purchasing manager was worried that his boss would be upset about the total costs. In an effort to reduce costs, the manager offered a US Customs officer $500 in cash to re-classify the imported goods to reduce the amount of duties owed.
• Analyze the legal and ethical ramifications of the purchasing manager’s offer to the customs official?

Scenario 3—Environment
Recycling Genie is a new company that contracts with Best Buy and other electronics retailers for the collection old computers, monitors, televisions, and cell phones dropped off at their facilities. The electronics contain lead, mercury, and polyvinyl chlorides that are known to have toxicological effects such as cancer, kidney disease, and brain damage. Recycling Genie has been in negotiations to ship the e-waste to companies in China, Vietnam, and Mongolia.

Scenario 4—Property
Ginger and Allen lived together in New Mexico since 2011, but they were not married until July 2013. Allen purchased the home in 2008, prior to meeting Ginger. He did not add Ginger to the title after they were married; however, she contributed to the mortgage payments from 2011 until she started her business in 2013. In September 2013, Ginger inherited $55,000 from her father that she used to start a corporation, Fantastic Faces, a beauty consulting business
Ginger worked full time for Fantastic Faces, while Allen continued with his job teaching at the university. Allen made no contributions to Fantastic Faces. Due to limited financial resources, Ginger did not earn any salary until 2015.
In May 2013, Allen inherited 20 acres of farmland in Alabama from his grandfather. The land was leased to a local farmer. Allen visited the farm after the funeral in 2013 but did not return to Alabama. The rental income of $5,000 per year was deposited into the couple’s joint account. Allen filed for divorce in New Mexico on November 10, 2015.

TeaLand S.A. is a London company that started as a medium-sized company. Its main activity is the commercialization of tea to various European countries. Currently they obtain tea from the main producing countries: China, India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Indonesia and Turkey. They sell their tea in different ways: in bulk, in bags and cold tea as a soda. They not only sell to supermarkets, but also to companies and the hospitality and catering industries.

They have been in the market for approximately 20 years, with an exponential growth in the first 15 years due to the quality of the tea they offer and an excellent and careful Marketing campaign, which has put them at the top of the market.

However, TeaLand is not known to take good care of its workers. In a job satisfaction survey taken a few months ago, the results were alarmingly negative, and it is unknown how this information was leaked to the media. Its repercussion was so great that sales were directly affected, which led the firm to not achieve last year’s goals.

In this survey several topics surfaced: endless workdays, low salaries, difficulty reconciling work and personal life, low career options within the company, scarce training, etc.

In regard to consumers, in recent surveys it is said that it is a well respected brand, and satisfaction is high, since they are very aromatic teas. However, the lack of an ecological tea option is highlighted as a negative aspect.

In recent years, other European, American and Asian brands have been gaining ground, as they offer a product of similar quality but at a more competitive price, a wide range of ecological varieties, and also a remarkable and commendable commitment to the environment and the community: collaboration with NGOs, sustainability projects with producing countries, etc.

Taking into account the situation which TeaLand is currently facing, they have decided to hire the services of a specialized consultancy in CSR, and they assign the project to you.

DEVELOP

1. Analyze the starting situation: make a complete, synthesized and visual analysis, and design a SWOT matrix.

2. Formulate realistic goals to achieve with the CSR Plan.

3. Create a Stakeholders Map: in this section we ask you to design a map classifying the groups of interest.

4. Develop a Strategic CSR Plan: this is the most important exercise of the final project, and therefore the one with the most academic weight.

5. State which CSR measurement tools you are going to propose for TeaLand.

6. Final thoughts: make a final consideration in the form of an evaluation and conclusions about CSR at present.

The focus of JIT attempts to remove delays, which do not add value. Select a company and use the Internet to identify the chosen company’s method of managing their inventory. Based on the course readings, describe how JIT could be implemented in the company chosen, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of implementing JIT, and discuss strategies for creating lean operations.
