Discussion: Big Data Risks and Rewards

Discussion: Big Data Risks and Rewards When you wake in the morning, you may reach for your cell phone to reply to a few text or email messages that you missed overnight. On your drive to work, you may stop to refuel your car. Upon your arrival, you might swipe a key card at the door to gain entrance to the facility. And before finally reaching your workstation, you may stop by the cafeteria to purchase a coffee. From the moment you wake, you are in fact a data-generation machine. Each use of your phone, every transaction you make using a debit or credit card, even your entrance to your place of work, creates data. It begs the question: How much data do you generate each day? Many studies have been conducted on this, and the numbers are staggering: Estimates suggest that nearly 1 million bytes of data are generated every second for every person on earth. As the volume of data increases, information professionals have looked for ways to use big data—large, complex sets of data that require specialized approaches to use effectively. Big data has the potential for significant rewards—and significant risks—to healthcare. In this Discussion, you will consider these risks and rewards. How easy is it for employees to speak up and give improvement ideas or complaints that ultimately would enhance the organization if addressed by leaders.

Reviewing the progress of the organization on a routine basis is another aspect of decision-making to ensure intervention is applied when needed. Understanding the performance and results of decisions drives the organization in specific directions to meet goals. This is typically a more rational action since financial, quality improvement, and other essential functions are overseen routinely. Consider the employees in this week’s work. How easy is it for employees to speak up and give improvement ideas or complaints that ultimately would enhance the organization if addressed by leaders. Consider past mistakes of the company and learning the lessons to make best practices for future similar situations. Many companies in similar or parallel industries will share best practices to streamline procedures and processes. Since most companies of larger sizes have projects that pull groups or teams together, consider the dynamics of a team and how making decisions is accomplished for the organization’s success. Anyone participating in a project with assigned group members can most likely relate to personalities not mixing and egos getting in the way. When a group can brainstorm and collaborate effectively, powerful outcomes can emerge. This is the type of decision-making that organizations thrive on and emerge more successful. Implementing effective team brainstorming and group decision-making boosts the organization forward in reaching missions and goals. The company from week three has hired you as a consultant. Explain how Technology has influenced the (digital) music market

do a great job captivating your readers with your introduction and your article is easy to read. Adapting your writing style to different types of genres and audiences can be a bit of a challenge but you improved your article well according to my comments. My only concern is that you have not evaluated each source separately. You mention that all of your sources are opinion pieces but what does that mean? Is that a weakness or strength when it comes to credibilty? Why are these sources pertinent to your article? Source criticism is an important part of this course, and since you did not evaluate each source in article part 1, I would like to ask you to expand on your criticism a bit more here. Please read my previous feedback in article part 1. To clarify, just revise your source criticism and send back your article for a final assessment. Feel free to make other changes as well.

Discussion: Social, Economic, and Environmental Justice

Discussion: Social, Economic, and Environmental Justice As a social worker, you will often work with clients that are perceived as “others.” This “otherness” often leads to marginalization and barriers or limitations promoted by society and social institutions. Marginalization is arguably the most dangerous form of oppression (Adams et al., 2013) because it eventually leads to social expulsion and material deprivation. Social work is a unique profession because it empowers those who are affected by the socially constructed barriers and biases that have perpetuated long-standing inequalities. As you begin your work with clients both as an intern and social worker, it is imperative to consider not only the individual (micro) concerns the client brings to the session but the environmental or macro factors that may have either created or perpetuated the concern. You can empower your clients by helping them identify and define the oppression they experienced throughout their lifetime. Social work’s commitment to social justice includes a hyperawareness of the social constructions that are used to limit some groups’ autonomy and viability while supporting others. Post an analysis of the dimensions of oppression and marginalization that might impact your future clients. Be specific in identifying the types of clients with whom you might work and provide a specific example of a social injustice, economic injustice, and environmental injustice that clients might experience. In your analysis, explain how the concepts of multiculturalism, power, and privilege are relevant to social work practice.
