– Making concrete connection to the readings, name and discuss the implications of some of the fundamental precepts of racial logics in upholding white supremacy and the significance of the heteropatriarchy in doing so (e.g., 3 pillars; nuclear family; etc.). How does this kind of structural oppression impact different communities? Use the framework offered by Andrea Smith to discuss one contemporary example and make sure to pay close attention to the critical terms to make sure your diction is correct.-Why is a shift in perception toward racial logics and understanding racial hierarchies important? What is faulty with the logic of an essentialist, single-issue approach to identity and the hierarchy of oppression in politics—i.e., despite good intent, why do such models fall short and what do they not allow room for thinking about? What are some suggestions for change in the text?
Cultural And Ethnic Contexts Use this week’s readings to assist in the completion of the written assignment. Imagine that you have been contracted to modify an existing program to assist new mothers to return to the workforce in a culturally and ethnically diverse metropolitan city in the United States. The existing program does not encompass the specific needs of diverse cultures or ethnicities within the community. For example, the program does not incorporate the cultural beliefs related to paternalism, gender stereotypes, or child-rearing practices as they relate to diverse cultures. This program would be in need of modification.
Unit 12: Romanticism Discussion1. Choose a work of Romantic music OR a composer from the Romantic period (in the E-textbook go to “Music” and “Classical Net” and “Repertoire” and “Romanticism” for a list of ideas).2. Find the piece online or in your own collection and listen to it. Why is the piece considered Romantic? Why did you choose it? Include a question for your classmates.(*Note: We are discussing the 18th century style of Romanticism, NOT “romanticism” as in “love and romance.”) If you chose a composer, find an article that analyzes that composer’s style and explain why the composer is considered Romantic.3. Listen to the composition posted by your assigned classmate (you will be assigned one classmate to peer review after the due date)and respond with your reaction to the musical work they posted (peer review due at the end of the week).Learning Outcome: Interpret a work of art, literature, philosophy, or religion.
