In Chapter One of Unit 1, we learned that child development as a concept was not studied until the eighteenth century. In Units 1 and 2, we studied theorists who have influenced the practices of early childhood educators over time. Choose one historic theorist from the choices of Froebel, Montessori, Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson, Gardner, Maslow, and Bronfenbrenner. Post a picture (or link to a picture) of the theorist and discuss in what way the picture represents his/her ideas and theory. State what fascinates you and what you would like to learn most about the theorist’s philosophy. Discuss the application of the theorist’s ideas to present teaching practices. Suggest ways in which you might be able to apply the theorist’s positions in your own teaching and/or personal life.
Lesson 1 Assignment #3: Art, Development and Developmental Theories In this assignment you are to select a painting/illustration that shows a child and/or children. Based on your selected artwork, identify and describe the three developmental processes and provide an example of each with reference to the painting. Identify and describe the period of development the individual appears to be in. Next, address the three main developmental issues (BIOLOGICAL, COGNITIVE, AND SOCIOEMOTIONAL PROCESSES) with reference to the individual/s in your painting. Use examples where appropriate. Lastly, how could your painting represent two of the developmental theories. That is, how could the representation be viewed from two of the developmental theories outlined in chapter 1 (you can select any two)?
Philip Sidney’s Sonnet 1, William Shakespeare’s Sonnet #18,and/or Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.”In a comparison and/or contrast literary paper, your goal is to analyze how two literary workstreat the same theme. You need to select at least three similar points about each literary work thatyou will analyze to illustrate how the individual work treats the theme. For instance, if you arecomparing and/or contrasting Shakespeare’s poem to Browning’s s poem in terms of the how thespeaker displays love for their beloved, you can analyze how the speakers’ view on deathcontribute to this theme. In other words, you will discuss the speaker’s view of death inShakespeare’s poem and the speaker’s view of death in Browning’s poem. You will then needtwo other common points from each poem to complete your analysis. There are two different ways that you can structure a comparison and/or contrast paper:Subject-by-Subject Point-by-PointShakespeare Speaker’s view of loveSpeaker’s view of love ShakespeareComparisons Used BrowningLove and Death Comparisons UsedBrowning ShakespeareSpeaker’s view of love BrowningComparisons Used Love and DeathLove and Death ShakespeareBrowning
