What is the Value of Art?

A Value Claim: What is the Value of Art? Background: A value claim is an argumentative research paper which makes a qualifiable assertion; in other words, it is an argument (claim) about a moral, aesthetic, or philosophical topic (value). Assignment: Although most people think they know what art is, they are often at a loss to define it. What is art? Write a value claim essay that defines art and offers an answer to the following question: What is the moral, aesthetic, or philosophical value of art? Advice: There are several ways to approach this assignment—there is no one correct answer—it all depends on how well you communicate your points. You can focus your value claim on one artist, a type of art, type of music, a film director, a fashion designer, an architect, or whatever aspect of art you would like to examine. You can also write about one of the artists we discussed in class or any artist you would like to examine. Make sure you have a clear thesis (claim) to defend and that you demonstrate your topic (value) with concrete, detailed examples. You may draw those examples from the course readings; however, you must also cite at least four outside sources—at least two from the LBCC databases (newspapers, journals, e-books, videos) and at least two from the internet (websites, newspapers, blogs, videos, podcasts). There is no limit on the number of sources you can use—use however many you need to support your claim. Recommended MLA Guide: Purdue Owl Website (https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/purdue_owl.html) Criteria for Evaluation: How effectively you support your claim How effectively you analyze and evaluate your subject How effectively you examine multiple perspectives How effectively you demonstrate your points How effectively you employ critical thinking How effectively you describe your examples

Marketing to the mature marketplace. Marketing Health Services, 30(1), 12–17. Click here to read the article. NOTE: You will draft two separate marketing proposals for the organization. Each proposal should be based on a marketing strategy covered in the course. Explain which proposal best supports the marketing opportunities outlined by the firm’s CEO. In other words, does targeting one or the other group make sense in light of either of the proposals you have just drafted? Decide which (if either) of the strategies should be a part of your marketing proposal. Explain why and be sure to address each of the following: The opportunities available to the organization by marketing healthcare services to the mature marketplace and the opportunities available to the organization by marketing healthcare services to the international consumer. How either or both of the opportunities compliment or conflict with the organization’s current marketing strategy. What recommendations you would make to the CEO concerning the two proposals.

Begin with the basic facts about when and where they lived and what jobs they held. How did they grow up? What social class were they from? Thoughts: What did your person think about the time in which they lived? What issues did they feel strongly about? Words: Are there any memorable quotes from the person? Were there any writings left written by the person? What did others say or write about this individual? Deeds: What are they most known for? Did they accomplish their goals? Was there something that they left undone? What did they do during their nation’s revolution? Your essay should contain an introduction, conclusion and several body paragraphs. One way might be to have at least one body paragraph for each of the parts above.

Describe Cellular Respiration.

You will understand cellular respiration on a level that will enable you to explain it to someone else. You will explain in simple to understand terms and use a method of explanation of your choosing (see below). No matter how you decide to present your information, your project MUST present the science (biochemistry) behind the process of cellular respiration (i.e. show where the molecules go, which is used in which step, etc.) You can choose how to present this: PowerPoint- absolutely no copy/pasting of images…the images you use must be created by YOU! Write a children’s book Write a coloring book Write a story Create “recipes” for the process Task: Show the steps of cellular respiration with an easy to understand explanation of what is happening. Steps include: Glycolysis, Transition Step, Krebs Cycle, and Electron Transport Chain. Please limit the information in your steps to those taught in the course lecture (i.e. do not just go to Google or another source and copy information. Most likely it will contain MORE detail than you need for this project! Important things to remember: The whole point of the assignment is to practice the process of cellular respiration! There are many steps. If you can explain it, you understand it! You may NOT merely copy/paste information into a PowerPoint. If your information is copy/pasted it will automatically score 60/100. The point of this project is to have you interact with and practice this process. Also note that part of your grade involves: effort, creativity, and accuracy (i.e. does it really show the process of cellular respiration?) It is worth 100 points.
