At times, the city tries to improve the community by making it more accessible to higher class individuals while making it less accessible to the lower class. Gentrification makes housing less affordable to low-income families. If gentrification continues in low-income neighborhoods, it will push people out of their homes and the homelessness rate in San Francisco will increase. Gentrification is an issue because not only is it making the neighborhoods more expensive, but the tech and real estate industry’s intent is to clean up the neighborhood in order to welcome high-end businesses.
