Explain how the story of Guanyin (Princess Miaoshan) is a direct challenge to Confucian values and ideas concerning social hierarchy.

A bodhisattva is an individual who has attained Enlightenment/Buddha-hood but out of compassion chooses to be reborn to help others find their way out of Samsara. In terms of the Jerusalem tradition, this figure matches most closely with the idea of the Christ in Christianity. Both figures come to earth, by their own choice, to sacrifice themselves to help others escape pain and suffering (specifically illness, old age and death). Both the Christ and the Bodhisattva are motivated by love and compassion for creation and work tirelessly to see suffering come to an end. The story I have attached to this posting is about the Bodhisattva Guanyin (Guan-yin). She is a popular figure in Chinese Buddhism and has played a prominent role in Chinese Buddhism since about the 11th century CE. Write an essay compares and contrasts the rhetorical elements of two essays.

Write an essay that compares and contrasts the rhetorical elements of two essays. You will need to start by performing a close reading of each essay and an analysis of each determining what the author’s argument is; how he uses rhetorical moves in his writing in order to persuade his audience; and whether or not the author’s use of these rhetorical moves is credible, valid, and effective. Your purpose as a writer will be to construct an argument about which writer’s article is more persuasive. In order to construct this argument, you will write an article-by-article comparative analysis. This article-by-article comparative analysis asks you to select three different rhetorical points/elements (like logos, ethos, pathos, tone, evidence, etc.) to focus on in your analysis. In the body of your essay, you will provide examples and evaluations of Author A’s use of these rhetorical elements and then Author B’s use of these rhetorical elements in order to prove your own thesis about which author is more persuasive.
