Explain how learning has taken place.

It is late and 3-year-old Betty is alone in her room. Her parents had just put her to bed not 10 minutes earlier. Her parents are quietly watching television downstairs. Betty begins to cry and after a short time the crying turns into more screaming than crying. Her parents hear her crying and screaming and run up to her room to see what is the matter. Her mother holds Betty in her arms and tells her she is alright. She stops after a few minutes, but when her parents leave her room, she starts crying again. Her father thought that it may be good to bring her down with them and let her lay on the couch while they watch television. Betty is quiet for the rest of the evening, falling asleep on the couch. Betty continues to cry each night for a week and each time her parents take her down to the living room with them until they go to bed or when she falls asleep. Betty’s parents are concerned that she will be unable to sleep in her room anymore. Learning (i.e., operant conditioning) has taken place for Betty and her parents.

Explain how learning has taken place.
If Betty’s parents asked you for advice (in operant conditioning terms) on how to get Betty to stay in her room and not cry, what would you tell them?

Based on your research, should the Fed change some of its current monetary policy targets, such as the 2-percent inflation target?

The Federal Reserve offers to the general public numerous publications available at the website of the Federal Reserve Board here.

The Federal Reserve Board testimonies, press releases, monetary policy reports, the Beige Book, and a variety of other publications offer a detailed assessment of current economic activity, financial markets, and the monetary policy tools used to promote economic activity and preserve price stability.

Go to the website of the Federal Reserve Board at www.federalreserve.gov and find the section describing monetary policy tools. Explore conventional and non-conventional tools of monetary policy.

Write an eight to ten (8-10) page paper:

Evaluate the role and effectiveness of the Federal Reserve in stabilizing the economy since the 2007-2009 recession and its continued impact on the current state of the economy:

Use data from the Fed publications and other sources to support all of your positions.

In your discussion make sure that you cover:

The monetary policy tools.
The ways in which the Federal Reserve adjusted the tools in response to the financial crisis of 20072009.
Based on your research, did the financial crisis of 2007-2009 compromise the independence of the Federal Reserve?
The strengths and weaknesses of using monetary policy versus fiscal policy when promoting economic activity and preserving price stability.
Based on your research, should the Fed change some of its current monetary policy targets, such as the 2-percent inflation target?

Discusss Psychological Effects of Women and Men In Hip Hop/Rap

Your topic should be both substantive and defensible. That means that what you are writing about is meaningful and that you can argue a position.

As you write, consider the following questions to guide you. Some of these you may need to answer explicitly in your paper, while others may only help you in the pre-writing phase. I am not grading you based on these being explicitly answered in your paper and these should not be a template for your papers format.

1. Why is this question important? Who benefits from this knowledge?

2. What style(s) of popular music are most impacted by what you are studying? Are certain musicians/fans/people more impacted than others and why?

3. What is musically important to your discussion? Think about the terms and concepts discussed in class to help answer your research question.

4. What non-musical concepts are important to your argument?

*Your final bibliography MUST ALSO INCLUDE all recordings you mention in your paper. Cite the original album and where you found it (Youtube, Spotify, etc). Many times, musicians record a piece more than once, and I need to know which recording youre talking about. This deadline only concerns written sources.

@Wikipedia is awesome, but it does not belong in your bibliography. Frequently those articles are written by experts and they include a lot of good sources in their bibliography. The sources cited on Wikipedia DO belong in your bibliography! Wikipedia is a great starting point for your research, but it must go farther.

Formatting:

Papers should be in Times New Roman, 12-point font, with margins a MAXIMUM of 1 and spacing a MAXIMUM of 1.5. There should be no spaces between your paragraphs. Citations can be in any style you choose so long as you are consistent (I suggest Chicago).

What were the symptoms you experienced?

Write an essay providing (defining) your personal criteria for happiness and exploring whether or not you have achieved happiness based on these criteria.

Writing Assignment

Write a multi-paragraph essay providing (defining) your personal criteria for happiness and exploring whether or not you have achieved happiness based on these criteria. For this writing assignment, your response should be persuasive, thoughtful, and detailed, showing various points that support both the criteria you have chosen to define happiness and your discussion of how closely you currently match this definition. Logical evidence that backs up your opinion should be used throughout.

The essay should clearly explain what you think it means to be happy and whether or not you currently fit or match the definition you present. The first paragraph will offer an interesting introduction that pulls the reader into your views on how happiness should be defined using specific criteria. The following two paragraphs need to include main points that prove how and why your criteria define happiness (one criterion per paragraph), evidence supporting these criteria, and analysis explaining how the evidence supports each point. The next paragraph (#4), needs to discuss whether or not your situation matches the criteria you used to define happiness and answers the question, Based on your definition, are you currently happy? Its okay for the answer to this question to be no, but you should have some idea of what you might need to do to be happier, if that is one of your goals. You may be content as is, which is great. For the purpose of this assignment, just be honest about your current state and your thoughts on why you feel that way. You will need to provide evidence and reasoning to support the match. Your final paragraph should conclude your thoughts on this topic in an interesting, thoughtful way that goes beyond summary and gives your reader something to consider.

As a reminder, each paragraph should have a topic sentence that clearly states your point and details to support/prove this point. You should have transitions between paragraphs that show why each point appears in this order. The grading rubric below will help you develop your paper.

Rubric

Your essay will be graded using five separate categories: Purpose, Thesis Statement, Supporting Ideas, Paragraph Development, and Grammar & Punctuation. Each of these items will be rated as Proficient, Developing, and Needs Improvement.
