Scenario/Summary
You are the chief executive officer of Southside HMO, which serves 495,000 members throughout the eastern region of the United States. It has come to your attention that several members or patients who participate in your plan have filed a complaint that your HMO plan does not provide quality healthcare delivery. Several patients have been denied healthcare services to see specialists to whom they were referred by their primary care providers.
Your Role/Assignment
The board of directors has asked that you provide a report detailing your strategies and recommendations to investigate the complaints and to identify strategies to ensure that quality management initiatives are in place to make sure that quality healthcare services are provided to all members. The strategies and recommendations should be as specific as possible and include the resources needed for implementation. A minimum of three references are required for this assignment (our textbook along with two other scholarly sources). Our primary text and website research must be used to support your analysis.

Assessment is as essential to family therapy as it is to individual therapy. Although families often present with one person identified as the problem, the assessment process will help you better understand family roles and determine whether the identified problem client is in fact the root of the familys issues. Purpose of the Assignment

The purpose of the Essay Responses is to demonstrate critical thinking and analysis while examining a specific course topic. There will be two during the course of this semester; this assignment concerns topics covered in Unit Two. For Essay Response #1, you are asked to read a selection of the Epic of Gilgamesh (posted in full on Blackboard) and summarize it using the Monomyth/Heros Journey theory created by Joseph Campbell.

This assignment includes three steps:

Step one: Read over your notes, the Myth and Mythology PowerPoint, and pages 262-264 in the textbook, which focuses on Joseph Campbells monomyth/Heros Journey theory.

Step two: Read the selected sections of the Epic of Gilgamesh, keeping in mind Campbells theory (it may be helpful to print out the text if you can and take notes as you go to map out the various stages throughout the story).

Step three: Write your essay; your essay should consist of a summary of this story in your own words and explicit application of Campbells theory. Use Campbells theory to structure your paper. In your essay, you should demonstrate that you have read the Epic of Gilgamesh, have the skill of summarization, and fully comprehend Campbells work on mythology that we covered in class.

Option #1: Using the Accounting Equation to Analyze Transactions

Second National Bank just approved a loan for Joey John’s Inc. to start a home gym design business. Joey John’s Inc. is ready to start the business by renting a small office facility, purchasing equipment, hiring sales, design, and administrative help, and beginning to provide services. During March, Joey John’s first month of business, the following transactions occurred:

Joey John’s, Inc. signed a promissory note at the bank and received $50,000 cash.
Joey John’s issued shares of capital stock to its shareholders to raise another $75,000 cash.
Joey John’s purchased training and design equipment in the amount of $35,000 cash.

1. Address the type of reliability and validity used.

Explain the types of reliability and validity used. The authors of the VMQ do a good job of explaining general principles of norming, 2 types of reliability, and 2 types of validity on pages 1415. But when they present the specific information about reliability in the first paragraph on page 17, they specifically state that they are using one (1) type of reliability and where this data can be found. This is the reliability that you will describe. The same applies to validity; find the specific information provided by the authors on the VMQ.

2. Reliability: Address the areas of concern/strength for the Cronbach alpha coefficients.

Look at each of the constructs (scales) the test purports to measure and identify the proper category of low, acceptable, and high ranges of the Chronbachs alpha coefficients for each scale. Use the chart provided in the What Makes a Good Test handout. This explains how to read reliability and validity coefficients. Match them to what is in the manual. Report the reliability category for all scales. Look at the number/percent of the scales with problematic versus acceptable internal consistency alpha values. What do you observe?

3. Explain how sample size and the nature of the population may influence the constructs that the test attempts to measure, noting any strengths and weaknesses in these areas.

a. Validity: Look at the population used for the VMQ and the populations for the tests used to evaluate the VMQs validity. Do you believe that the populations of the other tests are comparable to the population used in the VMQ? Does this raise an issue with the validity?

b. VMQ Norming Population: Is it representative of the population you want to use it for? How about gender and cultural representation? Is there demographic information and is it sufficient to draw conclusions? Do you believe that the results of the group taking the VMQ are broad enough to generalize to other populations? Did they sample enough people to believe that this sample captures the traits of the population? The answers to these questions will help you to evaluate potential issues with both validity and generalizability.

4. Form an opinion of the test using the information in your report.

Summarize the psychometric properties you reported. Look at your evaluation of reliability, validity, and population. Based on your findings, do you believe that the VMQs authors sufficiently establish the reliability and validity of the VMQ? Note any concerns. Be sure to view this in terms of the sample size and the makeup of the populations used to norm the instruments. This adds important meaning to the reliability and validity coefficients.
