n your view, does Tthe analogy offer a useful way of thinking about art that encourages us to delve deeper into it?

In the essay Art Objects by Jeanette Winterson, she makes this intriguing statement: Long looking at paintings is equivalent to being dropped into a foreign city , where, gradually, out of desire and despair, a few words, then a little syntax, make a clearing in the silence. Art, all art, not just painting, is a foreign city. And we deceive ourselves when we think it familiar. No one is surprised to find a foreign city follows its own customs and speaks its own language. Only a boor would ignore both and blame his defaulting on the place. Every day this happens to the artist and the art (4).

I would like you to write an essay in which you consider the value of this analogy. In your view, does it offer a useful way of thinking about art that encourages us to delve deeper into it? Please explain what you think the author is saying as well as offering your opinion of it. I would also like you to cite two or three examples of work from Art Since 1960 or other images I have provided that support your view of her premise. Those works can be any you wish to choose and as a source for examples, you can look to the assigned pages (thus far) of Art Since 1960, 11-59.

Compose an essay in which you narrate an event that has had a significant impact on your life.

Compose an essay in which you narrate an event that has had a significant impact on your life. Keep in mind that this moment need not be blatantly monumental; sometimes the most significant events are the small ones whose relevance is only fully realized with hindsight and perspective. Remember to include descriptive details of important people and places. Also, several types of questions should be answered (directly or indirectly) within the narrative: How/why was this significant? Who were the principal participants? What were the order and details of key events? Keep in mind that the use of tension, humor, and hindsight can enhance the essays effect.

You should, of course, edit carefully for punctuation, spelling, and other grammar errors; and remember that the final draft needs to be turned in typed and double-spaced per the specifics in the syllabus.

Here’s a link to one diamond manufacturer (note: this isn’t an endorsement!) and the idea of manufactured diamonds and their marketing strategy to position their product as “Not DeBeers”. There are several other manufacturers as well if you look around the web a bit.
In looking around, it seems that DeBeers is also looking at getting into the above-ground manufacturing to supplement their mining efforts under the Lightbox Jewelry brand name ( http://www.debeersgroup.com/en/news/company-news/company-news/de-beers-group-to-launch-new-fashion-jewelry-brand-with-laborato.html )
