Liberty Challenged in Nineteenth Century American Thesis.

Assignment 2.1: Liberty Challenged in Nineteenth Century America Thesis and Outline Due Week 7 and worth 50 points America became a free independent nation. With the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783, the former mother country, England, recognized that its children, the colonies, were now on their own. A constitutional republic was birthed, and thus the challenges began. Slavery, the “Peculiar Institution,” was a monumental issue facing the country. Would it die or would it survive and possibly take a nation divided with it? This sectionalism followed Americans up into the Civil War. Dissect this crisis by addressing parts I and II below. For the next part of this assignment, you will create an outline of the main points you want to address in this paper. This will serve as the basis for your Assignment 2.2 Final Draft. (Note: Please consult the Virtual Writing Center (VWC) for tips on how to construct a proper thesis. Visit the “Developing Your Content” section.) Part 1: Write a thesis statement that is one to two (1-2) sentences long in which you: State your thesis on the significance of this slavery issue, as exemplified in your research. Justify your response. For the first part of this assignment, you will create a thesis statement. A thesis statement is usually a single sentence somewhere in your first paragraph that presents your main idea to the reader. The body of the essay organizes the material you gather and present in support of your main idea. Keep in mind that a thesis is an interpretation of a question or subject, not the subject itself. (Note: Please consult the Virtual Writing Center (VWC) for this assignment.) Part 2:  For the next part of this assignment, you will create an outline of the main points you want to address in this paper. This will serve as the basis for your Assignment 2.2 Final Draft. (Note: Please consult the Virtual Writing Center (VWC) for this assignment.)  2. Write a one to two (1-2) page outline in which you: Describe two (2) outcomes of the 3/5ths Compromise, Missouri Compromise of 1820, Compromise of 1850, Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the Dred Scott Decision. Note: Be sure to provide two (2) outcomes for each legislation. Suggest three (3) reasons why slavery was and is incompatible with our political and economic system. List three to five (3-5) driving forces that led to the Civil War. Use at least three (3) academic references besides or in addition to the textbook. Note: Wikipedia and other similar websites do not qualify as academic resources.  Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements: This course requires use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details. The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are: Recognize the main factors that led to America’s early development. Identify and discuss the different ways that the heritages of slavery, the Civil War, and Reconstruction have shaped America’s history. Summarize and discuss the ways that formal policies of government have influenced the direction of historical and social development in the United States. Examine how changes in social and economic conditions and technology can cause corresponding changes in the attitudes of the people and policies of the government. Specify ways that women and minorities have responded to challenges and made contributions to American culture. Use technology and information resources to research issues in American History to 1865. Write clearly and concisely about American History to 1865 using proper writing mechanics.

Martin Shkreli has occasionally been dubbed “the most hated man in American” since he took over Turing Pharmaceutical in 2015 and raised the price astronomically on a proprietary drug.

The incident, and his worker’s dismay over representing the company, can be found here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2015/10/07/working-for-the-most-hated-man-in-america/?utm_term=.c3022c914cb6 However, Shkreli maintains that he was simply trying to maximize profits for this shareholders and that the R&D was being invested into new pharmaceutical innovations. That can be see in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS9blbLrKv4&feature=youtu.be He has also defended his move on a pragmatic basis, claiming that ultimately only “fat cats” would be hurt, since it’s insurance and corporate insurance companies who have to buy the drug at full price. However, what has been notable is his absence of apologies and seemingly total lack of concern for what the price hike would do to consumers. If you want probably the most positive interview with Shkreli, it can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PCb9mnrU1g&feature=youtu.be Taking this issue, is someone like Shrkeli correct to simply focus completely on his CEO duties as opposed to being concerned for all stakeholders, including hospitals and insurance companies? Is his mentality the logical consequence of a postmodern point of view, where morality is simply what we make of it and what we prefer, or perhaps a negotiating of pragmatic good? Or is there something objectively wrong with his position and demeanor? Develop your argument in 3-4 paragraphs

What role does population growth play in food security?

Assignment 2: Analysis on Food Security Due Week 7 and worth 110 points   The members of the United Nations found great value in the analysis you provided on the effects of global warming that result from population growth. They are now asking you write an additional analysis to include further issues related to population growth. Here is the issue they have asked you to consider: The member states of the United Nations seek to build food systems that can provide global food security which will feed everyone, everywhere, every day by improving food quality though the promotion of effective and nutritional agricultural practices. The crucial issue is not the lack of food in the world but the access to that food. In many developing countries, food shortages are due to governmental control over food distribution. These governments maintain control of the population and their power by limiting access to nutritious food to certain groups. In this practice, they thereby “weaponize” food. Your second project as a consultant for the United Nations is to develop an analysis that addresses three issues related to global food insecurity caused by global population growth and poverty, and to explore these issues in a developing country of your choosing. The UN has given you the following guidelines. Content The UN has asked that your paper contain three sections. Each section should be one page (or approximately 300 words) in length and answer specific questions, identified in the outline below. It also asks that you use examples from your developing country when answering the questions. Introduction Provide an introduction of half a page minimum that addresses points a-e below. Explains the problem the UN has asked you to address in your own words; Identifies the three sections your paper will cover; Identifies the developing country you will consider; Tells the UN the causes of food insecurity; and Provides a one-sentence statement of your solutions at the end of your introduction paragraph. Section I. Background What is food insecurity? What role does population growth play in food security? Section II. Technologies That Can Reduce Hunger and Improve Food Security What forms of technology can be used to reduce hunger and improve food security? How would these technological solutions work? What causes of food insecurity do these technologies address? Section III. Specific Factors in Chosen Developing Country Considering the causes of food insecurity, what factors interrupt the flow of food from the source to the people in the developing country you selected?             Conclusion Provide a conclusion of half a page minimum that includes a summary of your findings that the United Nations can use to inform future policy decisions. Success Tips In answering each question, use examples from your developing country to illustrate your points. The UN needs facts and objective analysis on which to base future policy decisions; avoid personal opinion and make sure your answers are based on information you find through research. Formatting Requirements Make sure your paper consists of four to six pages of content (or 1,200 words minimum, not including the cover or reference pages). Create headings for each section of your paper as follows: Section I. Background Section II. Technologies That Can Reduce Hunger and Improve Food Security Section III. Specific Factors in Chosen Developing Country Use and cite at least five credible sources in your research. A list of potential resources is available below. Make sure your paper contains both in-text citations and a source list, per SWS guidelines: Refer to the Strayer Writing Standards (SWS) document for reference. Include a cover page with your name, the country you selected, the date you submitted the paper, and your instructor’s name.
