Over the course of this class, we have talked about how quotation, paraphrase, and summary work in an academic context. Let’s use our article, “Life is Good for a Pipeline Billionaire Most of the Time,” to practice some of the skills we discussed, while including our individual perspectives. Carry out the following tasks: 1: Write a paragraph in which you quote from the article in answering the question: What impression of Kelcy Warren do you get from the article? Is there a specific idea about him you come away with? What is it? 2: Find a passage to paraphrase in writing a paragraph answering the question: What impression of the oil and gas pipeline industry are you left with from this article? What passages help you come to this impression? Do you think the article writer is fair to the industry or not? 3: Despite the intense public attention on the Dakota Access Pipeline protests (find an explainer here), they seem to play a small role here. Write a paragraph in which you summarize two or three paragraphs, answering the question: What is at issue in these protests, and how as Energy Transfer worked to make the situation better and/or worse in your perspective?
