Write a Report on Effective Content-Area Instruction.

Part 1: Locate and Analyze Resources
• Locate, read, and evaluate one scholarly, peer-reviewed article that describes, from an academic perspective, research exploring the value of teaching language through content- area instruction in a bilingual or ESOL classroom. This article will focus on the content- area you have selected. Articles may be found in journals such as The Journal of Language, Identity, and Education; The International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, and many other journals. You will need to ensure that the material you select is scholarly and peer-reviewed.
• Locate, read, and evaluate one multimodal and/or practice-oriented resource geared toward teachers that offers appropriate and authentic advice or examples for teaching language through content-area instruction in a bilingual or ESOL classroom. This resource may be found on websites such as Scholastic, Colorín Colorado, Teaching Tolerance, or Rethinking Schools. It may also be a multimodal resource such as a podcast, a segment of a documentary, or even collection of resources on a museum website. You will need to ensure that the resource you select is specific to the content area.
Pedagogical note: You are being asked to identify two distinct types of resources because one of the resources will help you understand how the topic is being discussed from the academic perspective and one will help you understand how the topic is discussed from a more accessible, mainstream perspective.

Part II: Write & Share the Report
• Write the report: You will share the findings of your research through a 2-page report in which you summarize the findings of your research. In this report you will summarize the research and described findings and suggested strategies in the scholarly article and the implications of the multimodal and/or practice-oriented resource. It is very important that you put information into your own words- this is an synthesis, not just a regurgitation of information meaning you should steer clear of overly-lengthy direct quotes or summaries of research methodologies and theories. Instead, focus on what you’re taking away from each resource and what you think would be most beneficial for your colleagues when they teach this content area to emergent bilinguals. Finally, in this report, you will also

describe what you learned in the process of doing this research and what you hope to implement in your own instruction moving forward. This report should be double-spaced and contain three full pages of text and a citation list in APA 6th edition format.
Suggested Report Outline: If you would like, you are welcome to use the following outline when crafting your report.
• Introduction
• Synthesis of major ideas, implications, and pedagogical strategies garnered from the
scholarly resource
• Synthesis of major ideas, implications, and pedagogical strategies garnered from the
multimodal and/or practice-oriented resource
• Reflection on what you learned & what you hope colleagues will consider in their
practice
• Conclusion

Are RFIDs destined to become the mark of the beast? Why or why not?

RFIDs: Good or Evil?
Technology can be used for good. Think of all medical devices that have saved countless lives over the decades.
Technology can be used for evil. Think of how technology can be used to manufacture biological weapons and mind-altering drugs or to facilitate kidnapping, human trafficking, and even murder.
In the hands of good people, any technological device can be used for good. In the hands of evil people, the same device can be used for evil. Thus, it is true for RFIDs…
On page 142 of your textbook, Wallace discusses some of the uses of RFID chips as sensing technologies. She says that they are “especially useful in supply chains” as they reduce clerical errors and provide tracking information.
Even in the early 21st century, RFIDs were rapidly gaining momentum as ways to protect families’ beloved pets: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1612639,00.asp
On the other hand, some people have suggested different uses for RFIDs, including the tracking of humans through the use of chip-implants beneath the skin. For all of the benefits that this potentially brings, could there be hidden dangers as well? Some people have likened embedded RFIDs in humans to the mark of the beast as described in Revelation 13:17: “And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”
Here are a couple of non-peer reviewed articles that discuss opposing viewpoints on this subject:

Note that the positions taken in the references above are not necessarily those of Liberty University, your instructor, myself, or anyone associated with LU. It is up to YOU to make up your own mind as you discover whether there is any research that links RFIDs to the mark of the beast.

Discussion Board Deliverables
Main Post:
In a minimum of 300 words, create a thread in Module/Week 3’s discussion board forum that answers the question: “Are RFIDs destined to become the mark of the beast? Why or why not?”
Indicate your position in the title of your post (e.g. “RFIDs are destined to become the mark of the beast” or “RFIDs are NOT destined to become the mark of the beast”).
Naturally, no one, except God Himself, knows the answer to this question. There are no scholarly research articles that prove or disprove this future occurrence. There is only the world we live in today, viewed through the goggles of God’s Holy Word. Ask yourself, is today’s world representative of the world described by Daniel, Ezekiel, the apostle John, and Jesus himself in their discussions of the last days? Consider what is happening in the middle-east. Think of our own country and its position on biblical issues. Where are we in terms of prophecy? How does technology fit into the broader scheme of eschatology? These are all areas that you can discuss as you examine the question about whether there is a connection between RFIDs and “the mark”.
Replies:
Reply to two of your classmates’ threads. Each reply should be 100 words each. Like your first discussion board replies, each reply to this post should say something meaningful rather than just “Great job. Well-said. I really agree with you…” Use this as an opportunity to discuss the topic. This will likely be a heated debate as many people are quite passionate about the topic. Please remember that as you approach these replies, it is fine to hold different opinions, but these differences should always be addressed with kindness. As you write your replies, remember Christ’s humility, kindness, and love for all of us as he bore our sins on the cross. Model your replies after Jesus’s example.

As with the first discussion board, I pray that this topic serves as an opportunity for you to look at the world around you and relate it to God’s Word. I pray it ignites an urgent desire in you to share the love of Christ with everyone you know.

What are some things that might have changed or provided more support in this person’s upbringing based on special education today and finally lesson(s) learned for supporting students with special needs or how does this knowledge make you a better teacher?

Write a 2-3 page double spaced report written on “The Boy Who Loved Windows: Opening The Heart And Mind Of A Child Threatened With Autism” by Patricia Stacey. In the report please include the summary of the person’s life, the challenges they faced, and aspects of the person’s education contributing to their success. What are some things that might have changed or provided more support in this person’s upbringing based on special education today and finally lesson(s) learned for supporting students with special needs or how does this knowledge make you a better teacher?

Psychoeducational Groups

Topic: Psychoeducational Groups

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to identify the wide spectrum of uses of Psychoeducational groups and identify factors that must be considered in planning.

Question/Prompt: To begin this assignment, think of a future psychoeducational group you may be interested in one day leading. Perhaps it is a group that centers around a population such as adolescents, divorced persons, Asian Americans, etc. Or, perhaps it centers around a problem/issue such as, alcohol recovery, depression, bullying, parenting skills, etc.

Once you have identified a population or problem/issue of interest, go to the LUO library and put in your search term “psychoeducational groups for…” . (Examples: “psychoeducational groups for children,” or “psychoeducational groups for ADHD”).

Choose and read one article and answer the following questions:

What article did you choose and why?
What did you learn from this article?

What stories of their “past relationships with their parents such as success and shame; power and abuse; love?”

1. Allender states, “If we’re taking a course, we’re willing to study books that bore us to pieces, but we won’t take time to review our own life, which holds answers about God and ourselves that will thrill us, amaze us and sober us.” Journal on one experience in your life that has thrilled you, another experience that has amazed you and one that has sobered you.”

2. Allender states that in order to understand our personal stories we must, “consider the various characters – both major and minor- who make an appearance” in our lives. Allender points out that the major characters of parents come with their own stories that are often passed onto children. Consider your own parents and their stories. How did they grow up? What stories of their “past relationships with their parents such as success and shame; power and abuse; love?”

Describe the data that could be used and how the data might be collected and accessed.

Discussion: The Application of Data to Problem-Solving

In this Discussion, you will consider a scenario that would benefit from access to data and how such access could facilitate both problem-solving and knowledge formation.

Post a description of the focus of your scenario. Describe the data that could be used and how the data might be collected and accessed. What knowledge might be derived from that data? How would a nurse leader use clinical reasoning and judgment in the formation of knowledge from this experience?

Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice?

March 21, 2010, was not EBP’s date of birth, but it may be the date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world.
When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.

In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.
To Prepare:
• Review the Resources and reflect on the definition and goal of EBP.
• Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website (e.g., a reimbursing body, an accredited body, or a national initiative).
• Explore the website to determine where and to what extent EBP is evident.

Post a description of the healthcare organization website you reviewed. Describe where, if at all, EBP appears (e.g., the mission, vision, philosophy, and/or goals of the healthcare organization, or in other locations on the website). Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not. Finally, explain whether the information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s website has changed your perception of the healthcare organization. Be specific and provide examples.

Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim.

Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim

Healthcare organizations continually seek to optimize healthcare performance. For years, this approach was a three-pronged one known as the Triple Aim, with efforts focused on improved population health, enhanced patient experience, and lower healthcare costs.
More recently, this approach has evolved to a Quadruple Aim by including a focus on improving the work life of healthcare providers. Each of these measures are impacted by decisions made at the organizational level, and organizations have increasingly turned to EBP to inform and justify these decisions.

To Prepare:
• Read the articles by Sikka, Morath, & Leape (2015); Crabtree, Brennan, Davis, & Coyle (2016); and Kim et al. (2016) provided in the Resources.
• Reflect on how EBP might impact (or not impact) the Quadruple Aim in healthcare.
• Consider the impact that EBP may have on factors impacting these quadruple aim elements, such as preventable medical errors or healthcare delivery.

To Complete:
Write a brief analysis (no longer than 2 pages) of the connection between EBP and the Quadruple Aim.
Your analysis should address how EBP might (or might not) help reach the Quadruple Aim, including each of the four measures of:
• Patient experience
• Population health
• Costs
• Work life of healthcare providers
