Most social insurance plans or socialized medicine systems rely on population health and primary prevention to decrease the incidence and prevalence of complicated medical conditions and diseases. As we have seen in the first two modules, the United States does not emphasize population health or primary prevention as much as other countries.Brady Hospital is a regional hospital in Eastern North Carolina. Brady Hospital is an integral part of the community, and thanks to some innovative thinking and philosophical changes, the hospital has gone from struggling to solvent over the past two years. You are the last piece and newest member of the hospital’s revamped C-Suite, the chief strategy officer (CSO). The CEO has great faith in your skill, expecting you to provide strategical insights on positions the hospital is considering, with the hospital’s main goal being to become profitable and transformative. The CEO has received some pressure from a couple of other healthcare leaders in the community. Those leaders do not have the resources to fully commit to a county-wide population health initiative, but if Brady Hospital came on board, the leaders believe the initiative can change the culture and health of the county. The CEO does not have a strong sentiment for or against population health.
