Personal Statement for Medical School.

•It has to be very emotional and how my grandfather’s sickness affected me to become a physician. . Came to the states in 2015 due to the discrimination and insults we used to get because we are Christians as my mom used to get a lot of bad comments because she is a woman and not wearing a veil to cover her hair especially after the 2011 revolution. Here we can freely practice our religion without being attacked and without having any fears. We were very fortunate to have had the chance to escape persecution. •My Passion for the medical field started when I was 10 years old as I have witnessed how underserved my country is as it didn’t have proper health care. •As I witnessed how many underserved communities don’t have access to proper health care and many people die because of mistreatments and of the doctors’ and the government’s negligence especially poor patients who don’t have money nor insurance to get proper health care. Therefore, my passion for helping others especially those need medical assistance has increased and it keeps increasing everyday thinking about those need medical attention and can’t have it therefore lose their lives. •A very sad story happened to me when I was 11 is that My grandfather was suffering from a heart disease in 2010 as he had CAD (coronary heart disease) where his arteries that supply blood to the heart got blocked and because his doctor couldn’t help him much he died of a heart attack due to lack of equipments and lack of medicines as he lived in a poor community where there was only one primary doctor and in order to get to a cardiologist my parents had to travel with him to 100s of miles away from where he lives to get him to a cardiologist. •I I was born and raised in the capital in Cairo, Egypt, following my dream of being a physician, would have been nearly impossible as a female as my country is very sexist and women don’t have the rights to be what they want to be and also being Christian in a Muslim country. It is better here in this country because of the freedom and the many experiences you can be part of to help pursue your career. The majority of the girls I know got their associates degree and that’s it, and other stopped at their diplomas, but very few are seeking their bachelors. •I dedicated my life after I came here to studying as I didn’t want to let my parents nor grandfather down of becoming a doctor and help those are in need, so I worked so hard in high school to get a GPA of 4.4 and get accepted into USF to get my bachelors in biomedical sciences and become the best physician I could ever be and help patients with compassion. •My parents worked so hard for us their entire lives to provide us good life although they couldn’t achieve that in Egypt they didn’t give up and kept on working hard here to help my sister and I achieve our dreams of becoming physicians and help our community as they focused on providing us time to be involved in experiences that would help make us better people. •In 2016 I started shadowing doctors in St. Luke clinic to learn more form them. I started working 2017 to help them out with the expenses.
