Develop an argument about the cultural significance and literary merits of an approved text. Our most basic question is: How does the selected work represent theme or human experience in an original, meaningful way? Feel welcome to explore works or forms that have been excluded from the traditional Western Canon (e.g. graphic novel, comic book, music). The core of your paper will highlight literary qualities of the “primary” text. As in our Analysis mode or reading and writing, look for things like: peculiar use of language (diction, syntax, rhyme, and repetition), distortions in style or genre,point-of-view, image-symbol-metaphor, tone, distinctiveness of character-set-plot, sensitivity to audience, theme, etc.
