This assessment requires the student to complete a researched written essay using the following criteria: Identify the principles and processes of communication – verbal and non-verbal communication, constraints to effective communication, importance of patient confidentiality, importance of active listening in communication and importance of professional communication eg. referral to other health professionals. Describe the knowledge and skills required for effective communication in cosmetic medicine or dermal therapies, eg. importance of good communication throughout patient and therapist contact, empathy towards patients and building a therapeutic relationship (rapport/trust) between therapist and patient, clear and comprehensive written information and patient documentation. Discuss the significance of cross cultural communication e.g. cultural safety, adopting a non-judgmental approach towards patients.
