The purpose of this assignment is to stimulate your personal thinking, encourage you to express ideas, and examine your thoughts critically on the discussions of cultural competency. It is your personal reaction to information presented in class together with our own readings in multicultural issues. You can reflect on your own cultural background and how those experiences have influenced your attitudes, values, and biases during counseling process. This assignment will be evaluated according to the following domains: (a) Brief autobiographical sketch: National origin(s), ethnicity, racial identity(ies), number of generations the family has lived in the United States, and religious beliefs/affiliations (in the family as well as personal). Other aspects you might want to include: age, socioeconomic status, marital status, gender, and/or sexual orientation.
