ESSAY 1 – Instructions This assignment is based on the previous reading “What the Guys in Funny Brown Shorts Are Really Doing” (The World is Flat, pp. 167-175) and the following article from TIME magazine on UPS. Case Description Find an example of insourcing, according to Friedman’s definition. Describe what exactly is going on in the case you chose and how it matches Friedman’s characterization Case Analysis Based on the information you have gathered, evaluate the positive and negative effects of insourcing in this instance. Which of the involved parties (companies; customers; local community; economy write large, …) benefits and who faces disadvantages, if any? Case Evaluation In light of your findings, is insourcing a good thing or a bad thing? Note: You can either pick a case involving UPS, but then your example must not be among the ones already mentioned in Friedman or in TIME. Or, you can select a case of insourcing involving a different company. Format: 4-5 pages. Typed, double-spaced. Font: Times New Roman, Size 12 Title “Insourcing: [plus, whatever you’d like to add].” No separate cover page necessary. Include a word count at the end, otherwise points will be deducted. For the word count, include only the actual text of your answer (not the instructions, course information etc.).
