FISHING IN COLONIAL AMERICA A. Fishing as a means to eat. 1. Affordable way to feed their family. a. Unable to afford the food sold at the market. b. Had ready access to the lake. B. Fishing as a way to relax 1. They needed to relax and be at peace, so they fished. a. Easy and convenient way to relax. You are outside to enjoy nature and your surroundings. b. They lived on the lake by the big town so it was very easy to fish. II. (SPORT) THROUGH TIME Fishing as a way to earn a living. 1. They earned enough from their daily catch to pay their living expenses. a. It was not expensive to run a fishing business. b. They lived on the lake by the big town where they sold their fish. B. Fishing is seen as a way of survival skills When people fish,this is recognized as a way of surviving skills. Fishing can teach you how to go and find food to cook on your own in the wild if ever stranded. III. (SPORT) AS IT IS TODAY Fishing is a sport 1.Fishing is a new way to win contests. a.unable to play any sports, try fishing! b. If it;s already their hobby, they can make money all while having fun with it. Fishing is a hobby 1.
