Module/Week 1 — Biblical Principles of Government and Statesmanship Content Overview Our discussion of public policy begins with an historical overview of Biblical principles of government and statesmanship, specifically, limited government, justice, inalienable rights, covenant and federalism, institutional separation of Church and State, and resisting tyranny.  These concepts will be integrated throughout the course.  We will also begin a discussion of the role of religion in American government and politics. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to: Articulate a Biblical model of statesmanship and government. Evaluate the argument linking constitutionalism, strict constructionism/original intent, and limited government to a proper exercise of statesmanship Apply that model to today’s public policy context. Evaluate the role of religion in American government and politics. Answers to questions must be supported with research and citations. It is not unusual, for instance, to have 3–4 citations per paragraph in doctoral-level research. Remember also that writing a research paper, especially at the doctoral-level, requires you to weave in ideas from numerous sources and then in turn synthesizing those ideas to create fresh insights and knowledge.
