You will need to choose and watch (in its entirety) a musical or a documentary about musicals. You can find one on Netflix (there′s a free 30 day trial or subsсrіption option), www.hulu.com (Links to an external site.) (free), www.pbs.org (Links to an external site.) (free), possibly YouTube, or you could go and see one live. Parameters: 1. This can be a musical from 1930s to present day. You may choose modern day adaptations of musicals if you would prefer – think Into the Woods, Barber of Seville with Johnny Depp, Oklahoma! with Hugh Jackman, Les Mis, etc. 2. You may not choose something that is an animated musical. (No Little Mermaid, Lion King, etc.) 3. The musical must have appeared on Broadway or in live theater. (There are some really great rock and roll and country music musicals out there, you just have to hunt!) 4. I encourage you to watch something new if you′ve watched musicals before. Assignment Guidelines: 1. Include the name of the musical, the format and/or location in which you watched it (a link if necessary), the year it was produced and the names of the leading characters and performers. 2. A 400 word discussion of the musical (NOT a synopsis or re-telling of the story). Discuss the musical traits you heard, what era it comes from, the musical characteristics you heard, and what you would typically expect to hear from a musical of the era you chose, etc. In other words, spend significant time focusing on the music. 3. Then conclude with a 100 word discussion of your thoughts about the musical as a whole – what was the experience like? Was it what you expected?
