These are TWO different questions that need to be answered separately 2. Take three products you have in your home (including outside your home, such as your car or products in your garage etc.), and answer the following about them: What brands are they? Study the three companies that produced them and find out: when and where were they founded, and where are they based? How many people work for them? Where (in what countries) are the factories, farms or other workplaces located that produce their products? What are working conditions like to the best you can find out? What are the environmental impacts of these products? What cultural values or national cultural customs do these products seem to embody as material culture? Have these companies been involved in any scandals, lawsuits by government or rights organizations, or in some other controversy in recent years? Write a conclusion that discusses how these issues are related to concepts from our course that you consider relevant (such as for example) globalization, inequality, work, formal organizations, bureaucracy, class, etc. 4. Choose a social movement from the past or present. Discuss the social conditions that gave rise to it, the demands for change that it made, who were its leaders, what were the main organizations that it gave rise to, and the laws, practices or institutions that it helped to change. Discuss the opposition to it and its goals and how these were overcome, or, if the movement met with defeat in the end, what may have caused its failure and whether its cause is still relevant and if so how a different movement might better achieve what it was fighting for. The movement can be one from US history or contemporary life, or from another country, or be an international cause and movement.
