Reflecting on your professional role as a nurse, choose one of the following two options for this discussion. Option 1 Focus on integrating a clinical decision support (CDS) system that was used to address a performance or clinical issue. For example, as nurses, we practice health promotion and disease prevention as a key element in sync with our Nurse Practice Act. No matter what our specific specialty or our work environment, our aim is to ensure the health of the community. As we interact with patients, clinical decision support systems are in place that help us in assessing their needs and in making health care decisions that promote their well-being. Within the community, these decision support toolkits identify such areas as annual screenings, level of health literacy, nutritional status, and behavioral health with regard to helping patients gain more control over leading a healthier lifestyle. Describe the clinical issue. Explain how the decision support system addressed the problem. Describe the system’s impact on the issue; address both positive and negative outcomes. Share any lessons learned from the experience. State whether you would change any decisions made. Justify your response. Option 2 This second option addresses the work of the AHRQ in implementing CDS through transforming guidelines and clinical knowledge. Projects undertaken are varied and include workflow improvement and medication management. Imagine how a decision support system might address a clinical concern focusing on the work of the AHRQ: Describe the clinical concern. Explain how a CDS system might address the problem. Describe the desired impact. Predict potential errors or shortcomings.  Justify your conclusions. Include the relevance of stakeholders and partnerships.
