In this assigment you will need to answer the following 7 questions. The first Four can be bullet points detailed response, the other two, long responses.
Please identify FOUR of the following terms. A good answer will address: who, what, where, when, and—most importantly—why the term is important in the context of the class. The “why” will be worth 10 points and the other questions combined will be worth 10 points, for a total of 20 points each, or a total of 80 of the 200 points of the exam.
You may answer in bullet points or in sentences, as you prefer.
Do not identify more than four terms. If you do, delete one. Otherwise, we will grade the first four answers. We will not grade all and take the best four.
— Identify (WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and most important WHY): for EACH:
1.) Enlightenment
2.) Marie Antoinette
3.) Triangle Trade
4.) Martin Luther
Then,
Please compose a brief detailed response to BOTH with a clearly articulated thesis that answers the question and evidence to back up your thesis. A good essay will demonstrate that you understand the terms you are using. The answer must be written in the form of an essay; that is, you must answer in full sentences and paragraphs, not in bullet or outline form. It will be at approximately 2 pages long, although essays will obviously vary in length depending on how concise you are, the size of your writing etc. A longer essay in no way guarantees a better grade but a short answer lacking detail will not earn full credit.
1.) Consider some of the propaganda that we have looked at over the last few weeks. How does propaganda factor into either the Reformation or the French Revolution? Propaganda can include written material, art, music, or other expressions, but you should definitely consider the effect of the printing press in your response. You should also consider both literate and illiterate audiences. Would the event have happened without propaganda (esp. printed propaganda)? Would it have played out differently? Be sure to include some examples of propaganda that we examined in class.
2.) Historians often divide European history at the year 1500. What came before what medieval and what came after was early modern. What happened around 1500 to make this change and how did Europe change after 1500? Your answer to the first part of the question should include several examples from class, while your answer to the second part should be your own analysis.
