How did life change for them and was it for the better?

Reconstruction was the period after the Civil War in which the lives of many groups of people changed. Slave owners no longer had the source of income they relied on since 1619, Native Americans still struggled to find their place in America, and of course African Americans were no longer bound to the chains that kept them in bondage. However, the many promises of reconstruction did not come into fruition.  In your discussion, examine  one of these groups.  How did life change for them and was it for the better?
