How do we engage and participate in the governance process during emergencies like the one we are currently living through? Do virtual meetings offer an avenue to participate? Who is most likely to participate? Who will be left out? How can we ensure transparency in the governance process during emergencies? How is the local government responding to this particular crisis? What is the purpose of the body? What are their stated goals/mission? What are they trying to accomplish? What is on the agenda and how does it relate to the stated goals?Who makes up the membership of the body? Are the members appointed or elected? Who are these members accountable to? What demographics do they represent? For example, are they young or old? Mostly white people or are there people of color? What does the composition of the body say to you about the process of democracy? What was the dynamic of the meeting like? Was the public present? Did they engage with any of the items covered on the agenda? How did the officials respond to the public?What connections do you make with the topics we have covered in class? How is power displayed and performed? Do these bodies actually have decision-making power? How does community and residents influence the process? What are your thoughts on the governance process? Can the process be improved? If yes, how so? What did you learn about the governance as a result of attending this meeting?
