Virtual Reality and 360* Video Observation Exercise Reflection Paper

Identify one or more questions that you have, arising from your current experiences in the classroom or with children, which you think that an observation in another classroom might help to inform. Maybe there’s a child who is difficult to tempt with work, and you’d like to see the way another teacher entices children to accept a presentation. Maybe the children in your classroom aren’t as independent as you’d like them to be, and you’re interested in observing the level of independence with children in another classroom.

Make sure to come up with more than one question in advance of conducting the observation, because depending what you see, it might be more productive to focus on one question over another.

As you engage in your virtual reality observation, keep you question firmly in mind, and make a mental note of the events that you observe which either give insight into your question and point you in the direction of an answer, or perhaps raise new questions you hadn’t previously identified.

In your observation reflection, please do two things:

(1) Reflect on your question. What is the question and how has it come up in practice? Give examples of the kinds of things you’re seeing with a child or a group of children that you find mysterious or do not fully understand.
(2) Reflect on the ways in which your virtual observation helps you to grapple with this question. Maybe it points you in the direction of an answer, or maybe it makes you realize there is further complexity that you hadn’t seen before. Either way, discuss in writing the ways your thinking has changed as a result of your observation.

There is no particular required number of pages or words for your reflection, but it is likely that between 1 and 5 pages will give you space to discuss these issues below.
