Significance of the Problem
-2-
Identify specific problem areas and the population that will benefit from a group counseling experience. Include the types of problems encountered, the reasons why you selected the population and why the members participating in group counseling would benefit. Make sure you have references from the literature. (Earley, 2000)
Type of Group
The type of group is a support group design. Examine why a support group is helpful for your population.
Goals
Explain what the members will gain in this group by stating the goals. Goals have to be concrete and measurable.
The Setting & Practical Considerations
Decide whether this group will be an “opened or closed group.” Include a description of the group’s composition, size, frequency of sessions, duration of sessions, and meeting location, i.e. residential, hospital, outpatient, school, hospital, residential, or community setting. Explain how you would announce and recruit members.
Selection of Client Procedures
Explain the screening method you would use in selecting members appropriate for the kind of group you’re designing. Identify specific criteria of exclusion and/or inclusion that will determine a client’s appropriateness for this group. Describe the member selection procedure.
Theory and Techniques
Identify and define an established theory (or theories) you propose to use as intervention. Give a brief explanation why this theory is best suited for the kind of population you plan to serve and explain how the techniques will help accomplish member’s goals.
Therapeutic Principles
Examine the factors from the theory you propose that influence the processes of change. Explain how these factors will help members achieve their goals.
Handling Difficult and Problematic Clients
Identify and define three types of clients that can interfere with the group’s process and progress. Explain how the leader will handle problematic clients.
Evaluation of Clients
Demonstrate the efficacy of the group and measure its accountability. You are to develop a questionnaire and describe specific measures that will evaluate the members’ progress. The questionnaire itself should be found in the Appendix section.
Evaluation of Counselor
Describe specific measures how group members will evaluate the leader. Avoid vague words and generalizations. You are to develop a questionnaire and describe specific measures that will evaluate the counselor. The questionnaire itself should be found in the Appendix section.

Although most sources on Lysistrata categorize it as Old Comedy, many who study Aristophanes see this play as a watershed moment at which the genre shifts and begins to introduce some of the elements we will see become common in New Comedy.
For this exam, please discuss how Lysistrata contains elements associated with New Comedy.
How to answer this well:
This is not a research paper; you should NOT look at any sources other than what we have for class.
Structuring your discussion by topic rather than by play will help a lot.
Be sure to use information from our sources and document where you are getting that information. You do not have to include a bibliography, but you do have to cite via parenthetical citation where the sources and quotes are coming from.
When you talk about episodes in the plays, you don’t need to spend time explaining how the characters got there in the plot. If you find yourself summarizing plot action, ask yourself if you’ve strayed away from the topic/point you’re making.
You do not need to include a general introduction about the nature of comedy or the history Lysistrata; I know it’s comforting to write a general intro, but in a short paper, it’s important to dive right in to the topic and spend the space on enlarging your discussion.
Length and Formatting:
Everyone writes differently. Some people are efficient writers and some people are chatty (I am a chatty writer). That said, I would be surprised if anyone could write a solid answer in under 4 full pages, 5 full pages is more realistic.
Please use a Times font, 12 point, and 1.5 line spacing.
Please put your full name on the paper and page numbers on every page.
Please EMAIL the exam to me as a Word doc.

Briefly summarize the major issues surrounding your topic
Describe several different parent perspectives presented on the topic

Carefully read Imperial Subjects by matthew d. o’hara, create a thesis, and initiate a search for other studies on the phenomenon of race and identity in Colonial Latin America. In addition to the holdings at the University Library, not in lieu of, search online for even more sources. With your accumulated knowledge you will be able to answer the following prompt:
In the United States, racism was not only a social construction but institutionalized for most of our history. On the contrary in Latin America race and class were quite fluid during the colonial period. How did race and class influence identity in Latin America? Or, did they?
Thinking Sociologically – An Autoethnography
Overview: For this assignment, you are to imagine you are writing an autoethnography – a form of self-reflection that connects your experiences to wider cultural and social meanings and understandings. Because this assignment is self-reflexive, you will want to write in first-person; this is your story, so use your voice. To reflect on your own experiences, you are required to answer the questions listed below. Your answers to each of the following questions should have a basis in sociology. Additionally, you should be applying at least five sociological concepts with proper citations in your paper; however, exceptional papers will include more. Your audience for this autoethnography is the general public, so this means you should provide a definition of sociological concepts and cite them. You must also provide in-text citations using the APA style-guide, and a reference page at the end. The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize yourself with a type of research paper in a self-reflexive style.
