Discuss and argue how the perception of the poor affects the way they are viewed and treated.

Select ONE American multinational corporation that a) has operations in the country that you have researched in your team online presentation; b) is NOT in the retail industry. Conduct research on the operations of the MNC in that country and the types of people it staffs. In writing the paper, assume that you are offered by the MNC a job to work in the country you researched. You are conducting research and applying it to your own personal situation in order to decide whether to take the offer. Find detailed information on company operations in the country (scope and location of operations, types of positions available, etc.) as a basis for this decision. Identify opportunities and threats in the political and economic environment the subsidiary faces at this point in time. What would be the implications for your own career development of working there? 3. Living conditions in cities where subsidiaries are based. (2-3 pages) Select one city in the country where your selected MNC has operations. Then gather information on what living conditions would be like working for the subsidiary in this city. For example, where would you most likely live (include a clearly printed city map), what mode of transportation would you most likely use to get to work, are there safety concerns, how big is the expatriate community, how much would it cost to live there, what would you personally seek to do for entertainment, etc. Hint: try Internet searches with your city and “expatriate”; check out sites such as easyexpat.com, expatfocus.com, expatforum.com for some general information. If you have family obligations, describe them and how you intend to deal with them, e.g., extent to which your spouse could adjust to life in each country. If you have children, describe how you would help them adjust–schools where they could study, etc. If you are single, how will you cope with loneliness in a strange place?
4. Multicultural competence Assess your ability to adapt to life in the country. Evaluate the cultural distance between yourself and natives of the country: use a direct compare & contrast of the two countries, rather than first covering one country and then the other. Be sure to apply 3 to 5 of the cultural dimensions covered in class. Describe your own background and the ethnic background of your family and how these have influenced the type of cultural environment most comfortable for you. If you have had previous cross-cultural experiences, discuss them and the way in which they might help you deal with culture shock. Which aspects of these cultures would create headaches for you? What challenges would you face?
In this assignment, you will be asked to identify the issues in a divorce case and to develop a discovery plan. You will write a ONE PAGE interoffice memo. You will be graded on your analysis of the issues, content of your memo, your discovery plan, as well as the quality of your writing, grammar and punctuation.
Scenario: You are a paralegal working for Saul Goodman Attorney at Law. The receptionist calls you and asks if you can speak to a walk-in potential client. You go to the lobby and find a visibly upset Renee Albertson. She is tearful and asks if you can help her. You take her into the conference room where she proceeds to talk without stopping for from her rant, you gather the following circumstances:
Renee wants a divorce from her husband Walter. They have been married thirty-seven years and have three adult children: Eleanor, Edward, and Walter, Jr. They have lived their entire marriage in Ventura, California. The marriage has been rocky and each party believes that the other has been “unfaithful” on several occasions. The only confirmed affair occurred in 1996, when Renee became involved with a next-door neighbor and at one point moved in with him after Walter “threw her out” of the marital home because of the ongoing and open affair. After a month, he begged her to come home. She did, and they went to counseling, reconciled, and resumed their marital relationship. However, Walter never really trusted Renee after that. As a result, he kept all of his assets as separate as possible from hers, with the exception of a joint bank account, out of which he paid all of the expenses related to the marital home as well as the food bills and car-related costs. Renee has been depositing her entire paycheck into this account, but Walter only matches what she puts in. He earns funds from four sources: Social Security, a modest salary as a school bus driver, an investment portfolio he established in 1985 and has maintained ever since, and money he earns doing electrical work “under the table,” for which he is paid cash or “in-kind” (e.g., he does some wiring for his mechanic, and the mechanic repairs Walter’s vehicle with- out charging him). He deposits his Social Security into the joint account along with about 20% of his check from the bus company. Throughout the marriage, he has maintained the couple’s finances and largely kept Renee “in the dark,” although he does give her a modest weekly “allowance.” He has always kept extensive financial and business records on his computer. He pays his bills online and uses Turbo Tax to prepare the parties’ joint tax returns. The marital home (jointly held) is assessed at $350,000 for property tax purposes, but Walter claims it is worth closer to $500,000, based on work he has done building an addition that includes a den, bedroom, and bath with a hot tub in it. He spent the better part of a year doing the work in his free time. There is a $112,000 mortgage and a $20,000 equity loan secured by the property. The parties had to obtain the loan to cover income taxes (plus interest and penalties) due on previously undeclared income Walter had collected doing electrical work for friends and acquaintances. He asserts that he is not still doing this work, but Renee is certain he continues to do it and not pay taxes on the funds collected or on in-kind services received. He claims to never have any money but went to Aruba for a week in January 2015, allegedly alone, and has a new Toyota convertible, for which Renee believes he paid cash. She also saw a credit card statement that listed expenditures at two local jewelry stores and several local restaurants that she has not been to with him. In December 2014, Renee became suspicious that Walter was having an affair with his old high school sweetheart, Valentina Ferrara, with whom he “reconnected” at his fiftieth high school reunion. Valentina had recently been widowed. Walter admits that he is “in touch” with her (particularly by telephone and e-mail) but that she would never consider having an intimate relationship with him as long as he is still married. Besides, he claims that at the age of seventy, he is no longer able to function sexually. Renee believes he is seeing a doctor and has a prescription for “that little blue pill.” Renee’s heart is broken, and she wants to file for divorce on the ground of adultery and drag Walter through the mud as much as possible.
Write a one-page interoffice memo to the attorney about your meeting. DO NOT get bogged down in information that is irrelevant. Answer the following questions in your memo:
1. What method of altering a marital relationship is Renee requesting?
2. What will most likely be the grounds for divorce?
3. What are the primary issues that need to be addressed besides ending the status of the marriage? (i.e. Spousal Support, etc.)
4. List five things you need to get additional information about, and what discovery method you propose to get the information for each. Your plan should include at least one example each of formal, informal and electronic discovery methods.

In this week’s discussion, you are going to be the CEO of a company. In anticipation of the upcoming quarterly disclosure of profits, you prepare your board of directors for the challenge that U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports are having on profits.
Conceptually, you will be asked to address elasticity as a measurement of the magnitude of a change. Additionally, you will be asked to examine how price elasticity of demand plays a role in consumer demand and how profits are affected by a tariff.
Instructions
For this discussion, please make yourself CEO of only one of these hypothetical companies.
‘Tis the Season—’Tis the Season is one of the largest importers of holiday decorations, and the summer quarter is devoted to importing decorations such as lighting, artificial trees, table runners, and outdoor yard decorations—all of which have to be ready to ship by early fall. In fact, we at ‘Tis the Season have a highly inelastic supply curve, ramping up to produce decorations for each season, and then once that season has been shipped, we move on to the next season. Fortunately, the price elasticity of demand for almost all of our products is 0.19.
We Build Big—We Build Big is one of the largest developers of new residential structure in the U.S. We Build Big builds everything from apartment complexes to new single-family homes. Critical materials such as lumber, gypsum board, and fabricate metal are largely imported. At We Build Big, we know that our production process, the supply curve, is relatively inelastic. The concern over profits is that the price elasticity of demand for housing is 1.0.
Very Big US Auto—Very Big US Auto is one of the oldest and largest auto manufacturers in the U.S. Very Big US Auto’s supply chain is highly dependent on components manufactured in China and assembled in the U.S. Very Big US Auto knows that the price elasticity of supply is relatively inelastic and that demand is relatively elastic, with a price elasticity of demand of 1.2.
In your discussion post, address the following prompts within the context of your chosen hypothetical company of which you are the CEO:
Is the demand curve for your product relatively elastic, inelastic, or unitary elastic? Demonstrate this for your company’s product by how much the quantity demanded will change if you pass on the 25% increase in cost from the tariff as a price increase for your product. In other words, show your calculation of the percentage change in the quantity demanded given a 25% change in the price.
Given your company’s price elasticity of supply and price elasticity of demand, prepare a statement for your board of directors as to the potential impact of profits. Who will pay the larger share of the tariff: your firm or your customers?
Note: In your discussion posts for this course, do not rely on Wikipedia, Investopedia, or any similar website as a reference or supporting source.
Write a research paper: How is A Doll’s House a reflection of the Victorian Era. Consider one of the following: Society’s hierarchical structure (social class), roles of family members (husbands, wives, children), sexual mores, role of religion, style, education, economics, politics, arts. If you have a different idea, please discuss it with the professor.
