In the process, you will get to demonstrate some of the key skills you have learned during this course. In particular, you will demonstrate the ability to create high-quality arguments on both sides of an issue, to support your reasoning with scholarly sources, and to provide a fair analysis of the strength of the reasoning on each side. Make sure to incorporate any relevant feedback you got from the instructor on your previous writing assignments. For an example of how to complete this paper, take a look at the Week 5 ExamplePreview the document paper.

Describe a time in your life when you were confronted with something new or a changing environment.

1. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi states in the Appendix at the end of Flow in “About the Book,” that “By random mutations, some individuals must have developed a nervous system in which the discovery of novelty stimulates the pleasure centers of the brain” (6). In other words, creativity may have been developed in human beings as a biological imperative to enable us to feel pleasure when we discover something new. He believes that creativity makes us better-adapted to a constantly-changing environment.

Please describe a time in your life when you were confronted with something new or a changing environment. Did it give you pleasure, as Csikszentmihaly suggests, or did it make you uncomfortable or cause stress? Or both? Please explain in a few sentences. Did anything good come out of the situation (regardless of the way you felt about it)?

Why aren’t baseball fans concerned about the outsourcing of jobs by Major League Baseball?

The controversy over the outsourcing of jobs from the United States to India, China, and other countries has hardly touched professional baseball. Although baseball has long been known as the National Pastime, Major League Baseball (MLB) has taken on an increasingly international look. On the first day of the 2017 season, 259 of the players on MLB team rosters were born outside of the United States. The number of foreign-born players equaled 29.8 percent of the total, the largest percentage ever. The Dominican Republic, with a total population of just over 8 million people, accounted for 93 major league players, the most of any foreign country. Venezuela had the next highest total (77) followed by Cuba (23) and Puerto Rico (16).
