Select an existing company, and think about applying the political, economic, social, and technological (PEST) analysis to this company.
Throughout this course, you will compile a comprehensive marketing plan using one of the product/service scenarios listed below. (Note: You will use the same scenario throughout the course.) This scenario will be the basis of your start-up company and will be the catalyst for the three parts of the marketing plan that you will compose in Units II (Part I), IV (Part II), and VII (Part III). The company that you choose to submit a marketing plan for is a fictional start-up company (not an existing company).
Scenarios for your start-up company are explained below. (Note that these descriptions are basic, and you will need to be creative and develop the business idea/model for your selected scenario.)
Scenario #1
Travel Supreme is a start-up travel organization with the mission of assisting customers with travel planning. While today’s customers enjoy developing their vacations themselves, Travel Supreme believes there are travel services that are still in demand. Initial research needs to develop what types of travel services are in demand by this target market.
Scenario #2
IT to Seniors is a start-up company interested in ensuring a positive experience for seniors (65 and older) with respect to the use of technological gadgets, software, the Internet, and/or any additional aspects of technology. Initial research will provide an idea of the business model that would be in most demand for this target market.
Scenario #3
Galaxy Restaurant is a start-up restaurant developed with the idea of providing the customer with a unique dining experience. This could extend from the product offering, service offering, atmosphere, or a host of other unique experiences. Initial research will provide an idea of what this unique dining experience would look like.
Scenario #4
Women on the Go is a startup company targeted at women who need assistance with the selection and purchasing of their clothing/accessories. This service is aimed at the more affluent customer who simply does not have the time and/or knowledge to dress to the business or social setting that they are expected to fulfill. Initial research will provide insight into the types of services that this particular target market would be interested in.
Remember to choose one of the aforementioned scenarios to use for the entire course. Submissions will be completed in Units II, IV, and VII and, together, will comprise a full marketing plan. While this is a cumulative marketing plan, submit only the designated unit’s work.
This unit’s submission should consist of the items listed below.
Analyze One U.S. Supreme Court Justice
Choose one, current Supreme Court justice, and provide a biography of significant events in the justice’s life, the political labels placed on the justice, an examination of whether or not that political label is accurate, and an analysis of the judge’s philosophy on constitutional issues.U.S. Supreme Court justices are people too. Examine where the justice of your choice originated and major life events which may shape her/his views when deciding a matter of national importance. Analyze whether or not it is appropriate for justices to use their real-life, prior experiences in their interpretations of the law. Review your colleagues’ posts, and substantively respond to at least two of your peers. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m.
The U.S. Constitution provides multiple rights for someone accused of a crime—the defendant in a criminal case filed by a prosecutor. Choose one right for the accused, and explain why this is the most significant safeguard for criminal defendants. Discuss at least two U.S. Supreme Court opinions which interpreted this right. Did the Supreme Court limit or expand upon the plain language from the U.S. Constitution? In what way? Discuss the relevance of the right in modern society.
Guided Response:
Choose a constitutional right that you feel passionate about, and evaluate how the Supreme Court views that right. Remember, all court cases are intentionally called opinions. There is a tacit acknowledgement that people’s and society’s views change over time, and that what is culturally acceptable today may not be tomorrow (e.g., think of the very recent changes in public opinion over gay marriage). Predict the future of your chosen right to analyze; will the Supreme Court restrict or expand this right in the future, and why? Review your colleagues’ posts, and substantively respond to at least two of your peers. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Day 7 of the week, and respond with robust dialogue to anyone who replies to your initial post.
What is a project, and what are its main attributes? How is a project different from what most people do in their day-to-day jobs? Discuss the importance of top management commitment and the development of standards for successful project management. Provide examples to illustrate the importance of these items based on your experience on any type of project. Discuss the unique challenges that an IT project presents.
Communication on a major project is suffering because several team members are in the habit of writing cryptic or careless instant messages that often force recipients to engage in several rounds of follow-up messaging to figure out what the sender had in mind. As project leader, you’ve spoken with these team members about the need to write clearer messages, but they respond that careful planning and writing defeats the whole purpose of instant messaging. How should you handle this situation?
