Chapter 4 Outline:
Running head: SESSION 4 OUTLINE
Fruit of the Spirit Self-Assessment#1 –Love After undertaking the assessment, I realized that I have a high tendency for demonstrating love towards others. However, although I consider myself a loving person, my opinions towards others are sometimes too judgmental. In summary, my ability to love others is hindered by my reluctance to sacrifice myself for the sake of others.
#2 –Joy From my perspective, I am a person who tries to draw inner joy from the small pleasures of life. As such, I always try to be cheerful, regardless of whether day-to-day life is easy or challenging. Nonetheless, there are many instances where I find myself depressed when things are not going as planned.
#3 –Peace Concerning peace, I realized that it requires very little effort to make me feel contented. Nevertheless, I am easily angered by external parties; thus, it is not easy for me to embrace the chaos that comes with the Christian life. To improve my inner peace, it will be crucial for me to accept that Jesus is always in control.
#4 –Patience Based on the assessment, I deduced that I am prone to behaving impatiently. During conflicts, I often fail to restrain my thought and opinions. As such, my ability to show restraint towards those who wrong me is extremely limited. In the end, this explains why I try to avoid getting into conflicts with others.“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (Romans 12:12, New International Version).
#5 –Kindness
3Running head: SESSION 4 OUTLINE
In my opinion, I believe that I am a very kind person. When interacting with my colleagues, I always try to treat them with a compassionate heart. Therefore, when my friends are feeling depressed, I try to make them happy. In a nutshell, I tend to treat others the same way I would like to be treated.
#6 –Goodness I tend to treat others benevolently, but this does not imply that I am perfect. In most cases, it is easier for me to keep people accountable in a kind way. All in all, I still believe that I am a person with a lot of integrity despite having certain shortcomings.
#7 –Faithfulness Concerning faithfulness, I determined that my relationships with others is often built on loyalty. I always try to act in a trustworthy manner so that others do not lose faith in me.On this note, faithfulness can be perceived by examining whether I can act dependably during good times and bad times.“But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.” (1 Samuel 12:24, New International Version)
#8 –Gentleness This assessment made me realize that I am as modest as I initially believed. During day-to-day interactions, I tend to make decisions after considering the feelings of my colleagues. Also, I try my best not to be judgmental when other people spite me or when they refuse to sympathize with me. **
#9 -Self-control With regards to my ability to resist worldly desires, I acknowledged that I have an abundance of self-control. The Holy Spirit gives believers the strength to resist sinful temptations. In the same way, having a lot of self-control allows me to live a disciplined life.
4Running head: SESSION 4 OUTLINE
#10 -Overall score of Assessment In this case, I believe that I performed relatively well in the Fruits of the Spirit Assessment. The Fruits of the Spirit allows believers to manifest the characteristics of Jesus Christ in day-to-day life. Achieving a score of 26 indicates that my life is heading in a good spiritual direction.
#11 -Top Strengths My greatest strengths are kindness, love, and self-control. The fruits mentioned above allow me to create strong relationships with my friends, family, and colleagues. As a result, I believe that these fruits will give me enough motivation to endure through spiritual, mental, and emotional challenges.
#12 -Top Weaknesses According to this assessment, my greatest weaknesses are peace, faithfulness, and patience. Although I can build strong relationships with others, it is not easy for me to tolerate people who behave maliciously towards me. By improving these weaknesses, I believe I will strengthen my spiritual vine so that I can bear fruits, as stated in the Bible.
