For this assignment, you will be writing a literary analysis of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” and Vladimir Nabokov’s “Signs and Symbols.” Using the “How to Write a Literary Analysis” handout as a guide, examine Gilman and Nabokov’s short stories using the literary tools of symbolism, setting/imagery, and tone. Your analysis should include the follow elements: An introduction that grabs reader attention, provides relevant information, and concludes with a well-crafted thesis statement. Summaries of both short stories. Analysis and comparison of the stories using the three literary tools. A conclusion that restates the thesis, sums up the analysis, and ends with a profound statement.
