What do you see as some advantages of keeping a schedule? What are some disadvantages?
It may seem paradoxical that students who have less time to study often manage to do better in school than others. How can this be explained?
What advice would you give to a friend who says, “I don’t make schedules because I know I can’t live up to them”?
What did you learn from keeping an “unschedule” of your week’s activities? Do you feel that it might be useful to continue keeping track of your time? Would you recommend this practice to someone else? Why or why not?
Ben Hur Lampman, a 20th century journalist in Portland, Oregon, wrote, “The trouble with life is that it takes all our time.” What do you think he meant by that? Was he just being clever, or did he mean something deeper? What does the quote mean to you?
By now, it should be clear that the questions are there to help launch your thinking; don’t just answer them in a list. A well-developed journal will address the fundamental ideas, explore connections between the issues brought up, demonstrate your understanding of the key concepts, and communicate your thoughts in a clear and compelling manner.
