Human Tissues Lab The following photos are slides of some human tissues that we would normally look at under the microscope in class. Your job is to do some detective work online and identify which photo shows which tissue, and label the parts indicated. The tissues shown here are (in no particular order): Cross section of an artery, vein and nerve (label each) Cross section of developing ovarian follicles in the ovary (label a mature follicle, and a developing follicle) Cross section of developing sperm in the testes (label developing sperm, seminiferous tubules, and leydig cells) Cross section of small intestines (label villi and microvilli) Blood (label red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets) Cheek cells (label cell membrane, nucleus and bacteria) Questions: Why do the artery and vein have different thickness of their walls? Describe an ovarian follicle. How often are mature eggs released from follicles? What is the role of seminiferous tubules, and what is the role of leydig cells? What is the function of villi and microvilli in the small intestines? Can you find a nucleus in the red blood cells? Describe why or why not. What kind of cells are our cheek cells? (what type of tissue?)
