He and his late wife have 2 young children, aged 3 and 5. In April 2015, Tom took his entire bottle of anti-depressants before leaving for work. He left his young children at home, alone, and headed in the direction of his workplace. When he was approximately 1 mile from his home, he ran a red light and collided head on with a young college student traveling in the opposite direction, killing her instantly. He has been charged with the death of the young woman, driving under the influence, and child endangerment for leaving his young children at home alone.
