Using yourself as an example, do you feel that one or more of the ideas or theories are particularly effective in motivating you, or is there a better way you can be motivated?

Review the motivational ideas or theories addressed in the readings for Unit III. Using yourself as an example, do you feel that one or more of the ideas or theories are particularly effective in motivating you, or is there a better way you can be motivated?

  • Engage the reader in the topic with some form of creative “hook” (such as a story, quote, or example).
  • Provide an example of a situation in which a leader used one of these theories to successfully motivate you.
  • Next, provide an example of a situation where an attempted motivational tool did not work.
  • What was it about the second example that did not work? Explain your answer.

Explain the major differences between domestic human resource management (HRM) and international HRM.

For this assignment, you will be writing about a fictitious company you create that offers a product or service of your choice. The following facts about the company provide the framework for this assignment.

  • Your company is based in the United States with no current global footprint.
  • Having gained approval from the board of directors, your company is preparing to merge with another company that provides a similar product. The purpose of the merger is to expand your company’s reach and create a global presence. When the merger is complete, your company will operate under a new organizational name and open a facility overseas in a country of your choice.
  • As the vice president for human resources, you report to the chief executive officer (CEO) who has asked you for guidance on making the merger successful.
  • This building of the merger project will continue throughout the course, culminating in a final PowerPoint presentation briefing in Unit VII to the CEO just prior to the overseas facility opening.

Write a paper using at least two peer-reviewed research articles from the CSU Online Library and the textbook as supporting documentation, addressing the following topics.

  • Explain the major differences between domestic human resource management (HRM) and international HRM.
  • Explain some cultural concerns that the organization will need to consider when developing the business plan. Some key cultural points to address would be the host country culture and norms that will affect the employees and leadership.
  • Develop a mission statement to cover the main goals and mission of the organization in order to function effectively in the overseas location with short-term goals.
  • Explain the spread and growth of internationalization, and how this affects your fictitious company.
  • Develop an outline for a basic business plan and strategy to include a vision statement that looks three to five years in the future.

Discuss current HRM practices that will need to be modified as the organization goes abroad.

For this assignment, you will again be writing about the fictitious company that you created in Unit I. In a minimum of two pages, discuss the following items that address the human resource (HR) implications for your company as it goes international as well as your role in HR in this growth. These will also help you to prepare for your PowerPoint briefing to the CEO that will be submitted in Unit VII:

  1. Discuss current HRM practices that will need to be modified as the organization goes abroad.
  2. Discuss the three different types of HR structural forms (centralized, decentralized, and transition) and select the one this organization should adopt and explain why.
  3. Explain the control mechanisms to put into place to ensure the organization’s culture is congruent across international borders.
  4. Address factors driving standardization.
  5. Discuss factors driving internationalization growth and the spread of internationalization.
  6. Discuss the IHRM professional’s role and challenges in a typical merger and acquisition.
  7. Discuss international joint venture challenges.
  8. Discuss the term SME as it applies to IHRM.

Describe how training and orientation plans will prepare expatriate employees for success abroad and for their return home.

Using your fictitious company from the assignment in Unit I, create a PowerPoint presentation of no less than 10 slides (not counting the title slide or references slide) with speaker notes to address the numbered topics below. Note: This briefing leads to the final presentation in Unit VII.

In the presentation, you need to include the following items.

  1. Create a staffing plan for the upcoming merger. Explain the four approaches to international staffing and select the one(s) that your organization should use.
  2. Describe to what extent expatriates will be employed in the overseas location.
  3. Describe how training and orientation plans will prepare expatriate employees for success abroad and for their return home.
  4. Include specific strategies for increasing the participation and success of women in expatriate assignments in your staffing plan.

Write a paper that analyzes and defines suggested improvements to their compensation system and/or compensation techniques and policies.

Select an organization or industry you are familiar with.
Write a paper that analyzes and defines suggested improvements to their compensation system and/or compensation techniques and policies.

You will need to review or define the organizations compensation policies, procedures, and techniques (i.e. the Pay Model Exhibit 1.5, attached ) to identify specific areas of improvement in an effort to ensure the compensation system is aligned to achieve the organizations compensation objectives.
Notes:
a) If compensation objectives are not defined, suggest what they should be based on the organizations goals and objectives. Your suggestions should be supported by research (the books/resources in this class and outside of this class) and/or discussion with other HR professionals.
Topics that must be addressed include (Note: ensure that your paper uses the text in bold below as section headings):

a) Overview of the current Compensation System using the pay model framework (the Pay Model Exhibit 1.5 ) outlined in the Milkovich book (4 points)

b) Definition of at least four (4) recommendations for improving the current Compensation Strategy and/or Compensation Policies. (3 points per recommendation. Total of 12 points)

Each recommendation must include, at a minimum; 1)  Detailed definition of the recommendation with supporting data.
For example, the current and proposed pay scales, pay structures, job evaluation policy, external competitive analysis, or pay for performance policy. 2)  How the recommendation would be implemented, i.e. a list of tasks and what areas or people would be responsible for implementation.

Writing and presentation (5 points total): a)The paper must have a cover page that includes: a) course name, b) student name, c) assignment title followed by name of the organization analyzed in the proposal, d) date and e) professors name. (.5 points)
b)  The paper must not have any spelling or grammar errors, use a 12 point times new roman font and be double spaced (3 points ).
c)   Must use at least 3 external sources and the sources need to be formatted using APA style (.5 points).

How can humans establish and maintain careful oversight of the work carried out by robots?

Elon-Musk donated $10 million to a foundation called the Future of Life Institute. The institute published an open letter from an impressive array of AI experts who call for careful research into how humanity can reap the benefits of AI “while avoiding its pitfalls.” Go online and find out about the institute’s initiatives. What are its primary goals? How can humans establish and maintain careful oversight of the work carried out by robots? How valid are Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Stephen Hawking’s concerns? What other concerns should the public bear in mind as the technological revolution advances?

Compare and contrast Rule-Based Classifiers vs. Decision Tree Models.

Topic:  Rule-Based Classifiers vs. Decision Tree Models

Overview:  The purpose of this assignment is to determine which method is more appropriate in certain scenarios for building classification models relative to data mining practices.

Classification is a pervasive data mining problem which has many applications, such as medical analysis, fraud detection, and network security. Various types of classification approaches have been proposed to address research problems. Classification is generally divided into two steps. First, construct a classification model based on the training dataset. Second, use the model to predict new instances for which the class labels are unknown. Hence, classification divides data samples into target classes. The classification technique predicts the target class for each data point. For example in the medical industry, patients can be classified as “high risk” or “low risk” patient based on their disease pattern using data classification approach. It is a supervised learning approach having known class categories.

  • Compare and contrast Rule-Based Classifiers vs. Decision Tree Models. For example, a training dataset is not required with rule-based classifiers, but this method is difficult to work with due to all the rules that must be listed.
  • In what situations is it better to use Rule-Based Classifiers rather than a Decision Tree model? Are they mutually exclusive techniques?
  • Please provide a real-world example to support your inferences.

Please ensure you refer to the rubric for specific details on the requirements for this assignment!
