Do you have any difficulty in performing the exercise or activity?

Discussion Board
Description

In this discussion, you will identify and describe the joints associated with different activities or forms of exercise

Instructions

Step 1: Respond to the following:

There are three types of joints: synarthrotic, amphiarthrodial, and synovial. Identify and describe different exercises or activities that involve using each of these joints. Try to use examples that include more than one type of joint.

Which bones and joints are primarily involved in each activity? Describe the type of joint(s) and their action(s).
What types of joint movements are performed in each activity?
Do you have any difficulty in performing the exercise or activity? How would you describe the problem, or lack thereof, in terms of joint health?

Explain the specific course of the physical illness that might be influenced by the mental illness.

Discussion 1: The MindBody Connection week 2

The mindbody connection is a concept that has grown in popularity. It highlights the intricate relationship of an individuals physical health with his or her emotions and psychological state. As medicine begins to understand and accept the mindbody connection, there has been a greater integration of biomedicine, mental health services, and alternative or complementary therapies.

This weeks resources cite multiple studies that explain the complex and multidirectional connection between physical illness and mental illness. For example, chronic physical illness may cause mental distress. On the other hand, mental illness can lead to deteriorating physical health, an acute medical crisis, or poor overall health outcomes. Given the connection between physical illness and mental illness, it is common to find health care teams that include physicians, mental health professionals, and medical social workers. The combination of these disciplines provides patients with well-rounded care that emphasizes the whole person.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Think about a mental illness and a physical illness that might be connected. Consider the impact of mental illness on physical illness and vice versa.

By Day 3

Post an explanation of the relationship between the mental illness and the physical illness. Explain the specific course of the physical illness that might be influenced by the mental illness. Then, explain how this relationship might impact a patients course of life.

Discussion 2: Assessing and Intervening in Mental Illness to Control Physical Illness week2

The biopsychosocial model focuses on the interactions between the bio, psycho, and social aspects of an illness. To illustrate the relationship between the bio and psycho, consider diabetes and depression. Although the exact mechanism is unknown, studies show that depression and diabetes might be linked (National Institutes of Health, 2011). The everyday stress of managing diabetes may contribute to the development of depression. At the same time, depression may reduce overall physical and mental health, making diabetes symptoms worse.

At all stages of illness, medical social workers must assess the presence and severity of psychiatric symptoms in the face of physical illness. In the presence of these symptoms, medical social workers need to understand the root of the symptoms. In the absence of psychiatric symptoms, medical social workers need to consider whether and to what extent patients might be susceptible to mental health issues. Completing an ongoing assessment of patients mental health status can inform and support medical social work interventions.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Think about Discussion 1 you completed this week. Consider the example of diabetes and depression. Focus on the possibility that mental illness may intensify the symptoms of physical illness, which in turn worsen mental illness, creating a vicious cycle of poor health and health outcomes.

By Day 4

Post an explanation of the importance of mental health status assessment in the presence of physical illness. Explain the specific information a social worker needs to gather during this assessment. Then, describe any follow-up steps a social worker might take when a patient presents with a significant mental health issue. Describe one targeted intervention that you might use in a patient with both mental and physical illness. Finally, explain one strategy that might improve a patients mental illness and physical illness simultaneously.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the resources and the current literature using appropriate APA format and style.

Read a selection of your colleagues postings.

By Day 6

Respond to at least two different colleagues postings in one or more of the following ways:

Expand on your colleagues post by explaining any research that supports mental health status assessment by medical social workers.

Review a colleagues post. Suggest additional information that needs to be gathered during assessment. Provide rationale.

Provide a constructive critique of the targeted interventions your colleague posted by suggesting one alternative intervention that might be more effective.

Offer additional strategies to improve both mental health and physical illness simultaneously.

Discussion 1: Social Factors and Health Outcomes week3

Week 2 explored the interaction between the bio and psycho aspects of an illness. The third component of the biopsychosocial model is the focus of this week.

Social factors such as socioeconomic status, educational attainment, social interactions and support, and health literacy independently influence the development and progression of illness and health outcomes. Other social determinants of health or illness are race, ethnicity, occupation, geographic location, and religion. These factors influence health through direct psychobiological processes or lifestyle modifications (Martikainen, Bartley, & Lahelma, 2002).

To prepare for this Discussion:

Review this weeks resources. Consider social factors known to influence health outcomes. Select two factors of interest to you. Consider both macro and micro aspects of medical social work.

By Day 3

Post an explanation of how two social factors influence health outcomes. Describe medical social work interventions that target these factors to improve health outcomes, and explain why you selected these interventions. Explain the tasks a social worker might need to complete in order to reach the desired outcomes.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the resources and the current literature using appropriate APA format and style.

Read a selection of your colleagues postings.

By Day 5

Respond to at least two different colleagues postings in one or more of the following ways:

Provide a constructive critique of your colleagues post. Offer different perspectives on the social factors your colleague selected.

Analyze your colleagues post and expand on the interventions with additional insight.

Share an insight gained from having read your colleagues posting.

Discussion 2: Assessment for Social Support week 3

Social interactions and support have long-term physiological, psychological, and behavioral consequences impacting health outcomes. The importance of social support in improving health outcomes has led to increased attention to interventions. These interventions might include illness-specific support groups, health education programs, and community resources that engage socially isolated patients. When assessing a patient, medical social workers must consider the presence, nature, and level of social support that exist for that individual. In addition, an evaluation of a patients perception of his or her social support is important.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Review this weeks resources. Consider a patient, the illness, and the social support system of the patient. Focus on the importance of social support on illness and health outcomes. Think about assessment of social support. Consider ways to improve social support for your patients that might lead to better health outcomes.

By Day 4

Post a description of the social support system of the patient you selected. Explain how the social support might improve the illness outcomes. Then, explain the importance of assessing the quality of the patients social support system. List a set of three questions that you think are important for assessing the patients social support system. Justify your selection. Then, explain how the roles of a medical social worker might improve the quality of the support for the patient. Explain one strategy that might be effective in improving the social support system of a patient.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the resources and the current literature using appropriate APA format and style.

Discussion: week 4 PatientProvider Communications

Research shows that the quality of the patientprovider relationship (Beach, Keruly, & Moore, 2006) and the communications between the patient and provider (Piette et al., 2003) influence a patients course of treatment and health outcomes. Unfortunately, there are many barriers to good communication in the patientprovider relationship. Health professionals debate about the best strategies for effective communication.

The initial steps of the Generalist Intervention Model support engagement and building of rapport between a patient and a social worker. Medical social workers are trained to be effective listeners and communicators. Given their unique skills, medical social workers are often called upon to support and navigate the relationships between patients and other providers on the health care team as advocates, liaisons, and mediators.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Consider patientprovider communications as an integral part of delivering social work services to patients. Review this weeks resources and think about how to deliver effective communications within the patientprovider relationship.

By Day 4

Post a description of the importance of patientprovider communication. Be sure to address the relationship between patientprovider communications and illness outcomes. Identify a minimum of three factors that might lead to poor patientprovider communications. Provide your rationale. Explain the ways patientprovider communications might be improved. Then, explain the role culture plays in patientprovider communications. Finally, explain the roles of a social worker in assisting a patient to improve communications with other members of the health care team.

Write a description of how the two most influential elements impact you.

Disussion#1 Week#1

This is in short paragraph form

Environments include, but are not limited to, family, school, work, community, religious groups, and friends. For children and adolescents, the environment can have a particularly strong impact upon behavior. Understanding the relationship between one’s environment and one’s behavior is essential to becoming an effective social worker. For this Discussion, consider the most influential elements of your social environment.

1. Give a:

Your geographic location (Florida)

An explanation of your current environment
( 2-4 sentences)

An explanation of two elements in your current social environment that most influence you ( 3-5 sentences)

Write a description of how the two most influential elements impact you.
(1 paragraph of 3-5 sentences)

2. Provide a question or thoughtful view to your colleagues response.

Write a discussion on the Impact of Emotional and Psychological Factors on Illness Outcomes

Discussion 1: Emotional and Psychological Impact of Illness on Patients and Families

Illness can lead to emotional instability and permanent or temporary physical disability. Patients might also experience reduced levels of independence and/or modifications of their roles in family and society. These changes may also have significant effects on family members and caregivers lifestyles and quality of life. Chronic exposure to stressors, such as medical treatments, side effects, complications, or hospital admissions, can deplete the internal and external coping resources of a patient and his or her family system.

Medical social workers confront the challenges posed by illness every day. In addressing these concerns, medical social workers focus attention on the impact of illness on patients and families. Through ongoing assessment, they consider how and if this impact might change with the progression of illness, whether positive or negative.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Review this weeks resources. Consider the experience of illness by patients and families. Think about emotional or psychological factors associated with illness and the impact of illness on patients and families.

By Day 3

Post a description of three major emotional or psychological factors that influence both patients and their families. Then, explain patients and their families experiences in dealing with illness and associated disability. Explain one of these factors that might be challenging for a medical social worker to address. Then, explain strategies that a medical social worker might employ to address the factor.

Discussion 2: Impact of Emotional and Psychological Factors on Illness Outcomes

The experience of illness can reach beyond the patient and impact the family system considerably. Patients experience illness through the lenses of their personal emotions, past experiences, stage of life, familial role, social relationships, responsibilities, stressors, and cultural and spiritual beliefs. Other factors, including the nature of the illness and comorbid conditions, also influence how the patient perceives illness. Together, these factors impact how and whether patients seek care, utilize health resources, and receive and adhere to treatmentall of which eventually impact the outcome of the illness.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Think about a patients emotional or psychological response to illness and the factors (e.g., depression, stress, anxiety) that might contribute to this response. Select two factors that you believe are important and might critically affect a patients course of life beyond family (e.g., at work, school, social life, role in the community). Consider the stages of an illnessdiagnosis, treatment, adherence to treatment, worsening of condition, complications, and survival.

By Day 4

Post a description of the two factors you selected. Explain how these factors influence illness and a patients life beyond his or her family. Then, explain how these factors might present themselves during at least two stages during the course of illness. Finally, explain how a medical social worker might intervene to ensure that the patient receives the services he or she needs to cope best during each of these stages.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the resources and the current literature using appropriate APA format and style.

What, if any, are the differences between ethical relativism and the subjective aspects of Christian ethics?

Thread: After studying the Reading & Study materials, compose a 500-600 word argument that is objective, carefully-constructed, and free of emotion (and hence it should not contain any exclamation points) in support of your opinion about ethical relativism and Christian ethics. Formulate your argument by answering the following questions:

Is Christian ethics relativistic or absolutist? Explain your answer.
What, if any, are the differences between ethical relativism and the subjective aspects of Christian ethics?
For question 1, answer whether Christian ethics is relativistic or absolutist. First, you should define relativism and absolutism. Dont simply re-state the reading, but provide an explanation of relativism and absolutism using your own words but also showing that you did the reading and understand the issues. Present the strengths and weaknesses of relativism and how these compare to absolutism. Here you should bring into play the arguments that are discussed in the assigned reading in chapter two of our textbook, Moral Reasoning. You should also incorporate the introduction from our Biblical Ethics textbook. You must read these chapters carefully. Some of the arguments for relativism presented in Moral Reasoning are eventually rejected as fallacious. The more cogent arguments are not presented until the second half of the chapter, where the author sides with the overwhelming majority of ethicists in concluding that ethical relativism is false. You may also read ahead to chapters 8 and 9 in Moral Reasoning, where the author presents a Christian ethic, and you may also consult outside sources. Whichever side you take on the issue, please treat both sides with respect.

For question 2, explain the differences between ethical relativism and the subjective elements in Christian ethics. In addition to the textbooks and academic sources, you are encouraged to incorporate important biblical passages such as Romans 14-15.
