Describe how you used keywords to search on your chosen clinical issue of interest.

Is there a difference between “common practice” and “best practice”?

When you first went to work for your current organization, experienced colleagues may have shared with you details about processes and procedures. Perhaps you even attended an orientation session to brief you on these matters. As a “rookie,” you likely kept the nature of your questions to those with answers that would best help you perform your new role.

Over time and with experience, perhaps you recognized aspects of these processes and procedures that you wanted to question further. This is the realm of clinical inquiry.

Clinical inquiry is the practice of asking questions about clinical practice. To continuously improve patient care, all nurses should consistently use clinical inquiry to question why they are doing something the way they are doing it. Do they know why it is done this way, or is it just because we have always done it this way? Is it a common practice or a best practice?

In this Assignment, you will identify clinical areas of interest and inquiry and practice searching for research in support of maintaining or changing these practices. You will also analyze this research to compare research methodologies employed.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.
  • Based on the clinical issue of interest and using keywords related to the clinical issue of interest, search at least four different databases in the Walden Library to identify at least four relevant peer-reviewed articles related to your clinical issue of interest. You should not be using systematic reviews for this assignment, select original research articles.
  • Review the results of your peer-reviewed research and reflect on the process of using an unfiltered database to search for peer-reviewed research.
  • Reflect on the types of research methodologies contained in the four relevant peer-reviewed articles you selected.

Part 1: An Introduction to Clinical Inquiry

Create a 4- to 5-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:

  • Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest.
  • Describe how you used keywords to search on your chosen clinical issue of interest.
  • Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected.

What benefits do you believe have resulted from the utilization of mixed methodology rather than the utilization of solely a quantitative or a qualitative methodology for this study?

Read Chapter 12 in Practical Research. Locate a scholarly journal article from the ProQuest database that employs mixed methodology in its design. Based on this journal article and two additional academic sources provide a summary of the article and explain the following in a three- to four-page discussion:

  1. What benefits do you believe have resulted from the utilization of mixed methodology rather than the utilization of solely a quantitative or a qualitative methodology for this study?
  2. Do you believe that this methodology is more or less problematic to the research process than employing one single method for this particular study? Why or why not?
  3. What type of study would you apply a mixed method design to and why? Explain your reasoning in detail.

Explain how the example your colleague chose could be used to demonstrate one additional feature of statistical probability not discussed in their initial post.

Respond to a colleague who posted about a different example from the one you chose to discuss. Respond in one or more of the ways listed below:

  • Explain how the example your colleague chose could be used to demonstrate one additional feature of statistical probability not discussed in their initial post.
  • A description of how the example your colleague chose strengthened your understanding of statistical probability.
  • Ask a probing question about your colleague’s chosen probability demonstration or example and provide the foundation or rationale for the question.

Discuss how did behaviorism become such a dominant theoretical basis for education and training in the United States?

Discussion Boards (DB) are a key component of online learning. They foster active participation of learners and dialog with fellow learners and instructors. Graduate-level courses require learners to create original posts to course DBs and to engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the course.

Minimum Weekly DB Expectations

  • Post an original and thoughtful Main Post to the DB prompt.
  • Respond to at least 2 other posts from learners and/or the instructor (Response Posts).
  • The first contribution (Main Post or Response Post) must be posted before midnight (Central time) on Friday of each week.
  • Two additional responses are required after Friday of each week.
  • For DB assignment prompts with a Part One and Part Two, Part One should be addressed in the first week of the unit with a Main Post and minimum of 2 Response Posts, and Part Two should be addressed in the second week of the unit with a Main Post and a minimum of 2 Response Posts.

More on DBs

At the end of each unit, DB participation is assessed based on level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion. DBs allow learners to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB are accepted after the end of the unit. Learners must demonstrate an appropriate depth of understanding of course content to receive credit for having submitted substantive posts. Typically, this is achieved with 3–4 strong paragraphs for Main Posts and 2–3 strong paragraphs for Response Posts.

Assignment Specifics

Part One

Discuss the following:

  • How did behaviorism become such a dominant theoretical basis for education and training in the United States?
  • How do behaviorists make the logical transition in their thinking from experiments on pigeons, rats, dogs, and apes to conclusions about human learning?
  • Why might an educator choose a specific behavioral approach? Consider learning audiences, types of learning events, learner management, and learning activities.

Illustrate your discussions with examples.

Part Two

The scientific or positivist philosophy of education argues that knowledge can be discovered and constructed scientifically. Positivists assume that people can discover the truth about the world and that everyone needs to work toward knowledge of the same, ultimate truth, regardless of the topic or field of study. Discuss the following:

  • In what ways does behaviorist theory support this philosophy?

What influence would the Coriolis effect have on the trajectory of your weapon of choice in Discussion 2?

For a mature hurricane, the amount of kinetic energy generated by its winds is tremendous. For a typical hurricane averaging 90 mph winds over a 40 mile radius, the kinetic energy generated is approximately 1.5 x 1012 Watts! That is equivalent to about half the world-wide electrical generating capacity. Using the same guidelines as for the prior Discussions (including replying to at least 3 other postings), address the following:

1.Do you think we should pursue harnessing the energy of hurricanes? Why or why not? If so, how and in what ways?
2.What sort of problems do you think we might encounter in trying to do so?
3.How does our ability to forecast the path of hurricanes figure in to all this? Do an internet search and describe at least one problem with predicting a hurricane’s path.
4.briefly summarize the Coriolis effect in your own words.
5.What influence would the Coriolis effect have on the trajectory of your weapon of choice in Discussion 2? (the weapon was hand cannons).
6.How does this compare to the Coriolis effect on the flight of an airplane or intercontinental ballistic missle?

Describe adolescent psychosocial tasks using a theoretical framework.

Using Power Point, Prezi, or an alternative file format include the following in a 10–12 slide presentation. Each slide will need to include explanatory notes.
* Describe adolescent psychosocial tasks using a theoretical framework.
* Develop a presentation on the psychosocial issues faced by adolescents, using at least one developmental theory as a basis.
* Identify factors (including physical and cognitive) that influence psychosocial development.
* Include an overview of adolescent psychosocial development tasks and milestones that are shaped by biological, cognitive, and environmental factors.
* Incorporate the roles of culture, family dynamics, peer influences, and media into your presentation.
* Describe an adolescent mental health issue and treatment approaches.
* Focus on at least one mental health issue (as an example) that can emerge during adolescence, as well as effective treatment approaches for this issue.

Discuss the value that metrics brings to the organization, and identify critical measures of success that should be tracked.

In order to have a successful IG program, one of the eight (8) Information Risk Planning and Management step is to develop metrics and measure results. From your required readings, discuss the value that metrics brings to the organization, and identify critical measures of success that should be tracked.
