-Stylistic influences
-Subject/content influences
-Cross-disciplinary influences such as literature, philosophy, music, science, technology, etc.
-Historical influences

Reflect on your learning.

How does understanding the context of a work help in interpreting it?

Discuss additional approaches not mentioned in the textbook that may be warranted in aligning an organization for future growth and success. Explain your response.

Review the IT diffusion models, select two models, then compare and contrast how these models would facilitate a company in the country and business sector of your choice. Be sure to state your business sector. Then, explain how the IT diffusion models may affect it.
Describe the process of how a non-IT senior manager would arrive at the decision to support one IT diffusion model over another. List the factors that would have to be considered. Determine which model you would choose and explain why.

Evaluate the approaches by company executives to align an organization for future growth and success. Give your opinion on the credibility of each approach.
Discuss additional approaches not mentioned in the textbook that may be warranted in aligning an organization for future growth and success. Explain your response.

Go to Section 4: Weeks 1 and 2 Textbook Reading from this week’s Webtext and read the chapter titled “Early Globalization: The Atlantic World, 1492-1650,” then compare and contrast the voyages of Prince Henry the Navigator of Portugal and Christopher Columbus. How you do anything is how you do everything. – T. Harv Eker (from Secrets of the Millionaire Mind)

This course is a mixture of learning a new format (business style) and adapting your English language skills to a different audience. Business communication relies equally on format (how you communicate) and content (what you say).

Respond to ONE of the following:

Discuss the Eker quote as it pertains to your professional experience and the material for Week 2
Find a quality resource that discusses the importance of format OR find a quality support that proves format does not matter in the context of the professional environment.

Do you have free will? Or does your brain chemistry make decisions for you?

This week you’re learning about the electrochemical reactions that happen every time you think, feel, sense, or act. So does that mean you are not in charge? Does body chemistry direct your choices and eliminate your control?

Watch the TED-Ed video How Does Caffeine Keep Us Awake? that explains the specific ways caffeine affects your mood, alertness, and performance, all through your nervous system.
Then, write a post offering your opinion: Free will, or brain chemistry? Or is there some way to reconcile the two?

Describe any security issues or benefits that you envision with the proposed solution.

Discussion: Sharing and Security
Operating systems have to balance the conflicting goals of convenient resource sharing and protection against unauthorized resource access. Windows offers a variety of mechanisms such as user and group permissions, shares, and access control lists with inheritance. On the other hand, Linux has a much simpler implementation of users and groups. As a computing professional, you need to understand the trade-offs between sharing and security within various operating systems.

For this Discussion, read Chapter 9,“Network File System (NFS),” and Chapter 13, “Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP),” of the Red Hat Linux 4: Red Hat Linux Reference Guide, the “Windows Management Instrumentation” resource, and the “Lightweight Directory Access Protocol” resource. These four resources can be located in this week’s Learning Resources.

Post by Day 3 a proposed solution to resource sharing and security against unauthorized resource access that you view as the ideal balance between sharing, protection, and complexity of implementing users and groups in an operating system of your choice. Provide an instance that comes close to your ideal balance between resource sharing and protection against unauthorized resource access.

Respond by Day 6 to at least two of your colleagues’ postings in one or more of the following ways:

Describe any security issues or benefits that you envision with the proposed solution.
Describe any file access issues that may exist with the proposed solution.
Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.

What symbolic purpose does Ellen Halloway, her choices, and her fate serve?

The final sentence in Wacousta focusses not on the happy lovers but
on Ellen Halloway’s disappearance. Margaret E. Turner calls her “the ghost in Wacousta” (187), and Manina Jones argues that she“haunts” the novel: certainly her curse drives this novel and its sequel. What symbolic purpose does Ellen Halloway, her choices, and her fate serve?

Compare the positive and negative aspects of a dual court system.

Research the differences among the states and differences between federal and state law regarding marijuana use.
Explain how these differences can affect the way a person is treated in the criminal justice system. What, if anything,
should be done to rectify the disparities in application of the law and sentencing across the nation? Consider two individuals
competing for a position with XYZ Corporation. Both candidates use marijuana recreationally; however, because one lives
in a state where it is illegal, he/she has a criminal record for possession of a usable amount. With their qualifications being equal, consider who is at most risk of not getting the position.

Discuss the role of observational research as a key methodology for studying society.

There are various methodological techniques for studying the social world . A key aspect of sociological research is utilizing the power of observation. Applying what you have learned about sociological research: First, discuss the role of observational research as a key methodology for studying society. Second, utilizing nonparticipant observation, participant observation, ethnography or netnography observe and record a detailed account of a social context or virtual social context that you are no stranger to (think local coffee shop, shopping mall, church or night club, a blog, twitter feed, or Instagram) from a sociological perspective. Be careful to be objective and ethically neutral. Do not include judgments or opinions of behaviors but rather, as best as possible, systematic observations. Third, discuss how a common-sense view of that social setting may look different from a sociological one. Does looking through the lens of sociological research methodology transform how that social space may be viewed. Substantiate your views. Fourth and finally,

What do you think is the most important thing Jeannine did to change her situation and start to improve at school?

1. Access and read the “Student Success Story.” After you read the story, answer the following: What do you think is the most important thing Jeannine did to change her situation and start to improve at school? Now that you are a graduate student, what are the lessons you learned during your undergraduate career that you will apply to your graduate studies to ensure you get the most out of this experience?
2. Networking is a vital way to market yourself. Online networking is an accessible way to make connections with people in your field. How do you plan on taking advantage of the online forums available to you as a GCU graduate student? How can attending events, meetings, or conferences relevant to the industry you work in (or would like to work in) assist you in staying motivated?
