In your opinion, which aspect of college is the primary catalyst for cognitive growth?

You must read the section of chapter 18, “Cognitive Growth and Higher Education” (pages 532–539) before participating in this discussion. The book is attached.

(You must respond to both parts.)

1. The section of the textbook, “Cognitive Growth and Higher Education,” provides an overview of the research on how students’ thinking changes over four years of college. The author of the textbook then points out that this research may be outdated, as students, professors, and institutions have changed since the research was conducted. Based on your own experience as a college student, explain your thoughts on this. How has your own thinking changed since beginning college, and how does that compare to the older research findings?
2. In your opinion, which aspect of college is the primary catalyst for cognitive growth? In other words, what it is about the college experience that contributes the most to changes in thinking? Is the academic work, professor’s lectures, peer discussions, the new setting, living away from home, or something else? Explain.

Describe each policy and explain how you believe the policy has impacted American society and economics today.

In this assignment, you will create a  timeline to help you understand the context of events and movements you  studied this week, and how these events relate to your current career.  You will put these ideas together for presentation in a PowerPoint and  explore how they influenced each other and your career.

In this assignment, you will choose three  ways that the policies of the United States Imperialism (e.g., Monroe  Doctrine, American Indian policies, slave codes, territorial  annexations) have impacted American society and economics today. Put them in order of when they occurred in American History and create a PowerPoint presentation that pulls them all together.

Instructions:

  1. Choose three ways that the policies of the United States Imperialism have impacted American society and economics today.
  2. Describe each policy and explain how you believe the policy has impacted American society and economics today.
  3. Each slide must have an image  (picture) from American History that represents it. The picture can be a  person, a document, a poster, a cartoon, a photograph, etc. from  American History. Be sure to include a citation for this image in small  text on the slide.
  4. Add at least 200 words of explanation for each policy to the slides.  In a paper ,explain the policy. This text should  be added directly to each slide. Imagine what you would say if you were  presenting to your co-workers or classmates. You may use more than one  slide per policy if you wish.

Discuss how does our ideas about equality and equity affect our ideas of “power distance”? How is this illustrated in your career?

In a posting, answer the following  questions:

  • Think about your future career. In your opinion, if you could only  have either equality or equity, which would you rather see and why?
  • Think about “power distance” and “power dynamics”. Describe one way  that the United States currently demonstrates high “power distance” and  one way the United States demonstrates low “power distance” (in a  historical context). How do these both affect “equality of opportunity”  in today’s workplace? How are “power dynamics” evident in today’s  workplace and how has “equality of opportunity” changed “power dynamics”  from what it once was? Explain the reasoning behind your example.
  • How do our ideas about equality and equity affect our ideas of “power distance”? How is this illustrated in your career?

A case study analysis requires you to investigate a patient case or problem, examine the alternative solutions, and propose the most effective solution using supporting evidence and design a comprehensive exercise prescription protocol.

A case study analysis requires you to investigate a patient case or problem, examine the alternative solutions, and propose the most effective solution using supporting evidence and design a comprehensive exercise prescription protocol.  You are being offered a patient profile and being charged with crafting a Case Study Report for the patient based on the information provided.

Directions:

Prior to crafting your Case Study Report, I HIGHLY encourage you to review the attached guidelines, review the example offered in the ‘Study Guides’ content area to the left and review the Case Study Report Rubric. You will be assessed on the structure of your report. You should include the following sections:

  • Statement or the main problem
  • Patient profile
  • Medications
  • Alternative to current therapy recommendations
  • Exercise prescription protocol
  • FITT-VP protocol

Assessment:

  • Identification of the main issue(s) or problem(s) you need to clearly state the main issue(s) or problem(s) under a bolded heading. Any additional issue(s) or problem(s) can be offered under the identified main issue(s) or problem(s).
  • Patient profile needs to include all the information offered in the Case Study Assignment document and expanded information articulating any possible complications this information may present when considering the identified main issue(s) or problem(s).
  • Medications section should include a description of each medication offered in the Case Study Assignment, the medications intended effect and any possible complications associated with this medication use.
  • Alternatives to the currently recommended therapy should address a specific aspect of the case, cited and referenced.
  • Exercise prescription protocol should be detailed to the extent of the ACSM guidelines and offer supplemental information addressing the reasons for this specific prescription.
  • FITT-VP protocol should be organized in a chart/table format and include such detail that a patient or exercise physiologist could implement the protocol immediately. This detail should include the movement prescribed, frequency, intensity and volume. A protocol addressing strength, cardiovascular and mobility components to a complete program should be included. Recommendations of progression should be included as well.
  • Writing Mechanics and Grammar will also be assessed. Page limits, spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, citation and reference errors will be assessed.

What would you do differently if you could “practice” speaking in front of the mirror?

On the stand, you are unable to watch yourself talk to the jury. What do you look like? Do you pronounce each
word correctly? Are you enunciating your vowels? Ideally, you will be afforded the opportunity to look at your
case notes and then support your testimony with information listed in your report.
This impromptu speech documentation will require you to begin talking about a topic you are familiar with
while watching your facial expressions in the mirror.
Additionally, another person will be with you (either a friend or family member, someone who can document
your facial expressions) and you will collect their impressions of your speech. The speech should be no longer
than 3-5 minutes, long enough so that you can begin to speak in a “normal” tone and pace.
The written portion of this assignment should be fairly short:
• One page (4-5 paragraphs) documenting:
o Your facial expressions (what you noticed, how does your mouth move, what do you do with
your hands, do you close your eyes when you speak, and other various observations)
o What would you do differently if you could “practice” speaking in front of the mirror?
Also include your observer’s report and identify any similarities/differences in their observation of you and
your observation of yourself.
