Human Growth and Development

Parenting is unique in that it is a culmination of several factors, including learned behavior (what we learned from our parents), peer influence, formal training/education, social-economic factors as well as cultural traditions. There are, however, some common elements in regards to parenting such as the ones described by Baumrind in 1966. Using sources like the Health and Human Services Child Welfare Information Gateway compare and contrast the information you covered in your course readings (especially the different styles of parenting) to what is being currently described as more current practices and thoughts on parenting. Post your response to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned. Respond to at least two posts by the end of the week. Justify your answers with appropriate reasoning and research from your text and course readings.

Describe Liberty Challenged in Nineteenth Century America Thesis and Outline

America became a free independent nation. With the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783, the former mother country, England, recognized that its children, the colonies, were now on their own. A constitutional republic was birthed, and thus the challenges began. Slavery, the Peculiar Institution, was a monumental issue facing the country. Would it die or would it survive and possibly take a nation divided with it? This sectionalism followed Americans up into the Civil War. Dissect this crisis by addressing parts I and II below. For the next part of this assignment you will create an outline of the main points you want to address in this paper. This will serve as the basis for your Assignment 2.2 Final Draft. The body of the essay organizes the material you gather and present in support of your main idea. Keep in mind that a thesis is an interpretation of a question or subject, not the subject itself. (Note: Please consult the Purdue OWL website with tips on how to construct a proper thesis; the website can be found at: Part 2: For the next part of this assignment you will create an outline of the main points you want to address in this paper. STEM EDUCATION: BRIDGING THE GAPS

Conducting effective interviews takes a great deal of planning, skill, organization, and experience. The reading from Family Health International provides very helpful information about the purpose of interviews, ethical issues, logistics, and detailed steps for conducting effective interviews. Pitney and Parker (2009, pp. 45-49) also described a step-by-step process for conducting interviews, and Rabionet (2011) provided an informal description of her experiences learning to conduct interviews, the lessons she has learned, and literature or resources that have been helpful during the process. If you are using a qualitative methodology, review the technology available to assist in data collection. Explore available tools and software for recording interviews that will allow for ease in transcription, especially if a transcription service will be employed. Available resources include your facilitator, documents and articles, and YouTube videos. Question: Discuss the major steps involved in planning and conducting interviews, as described in this week’s readings. Consider which step or steps you believe are more important than the others and explain why. Discuss challenges you might encounter while conducting an interview and how you would handle them. Describe some of the skills necessary to be an effective interviewer. Which of these skills would be most challenging for you? Competency: Ensure research study participants’ privacy and confidentiality. Learning Objective: 1. Plan and conduct interviews for the purpose of answering a specific research question.

CHRISTIAN LIFE RESPONSE:Evaluate the challenges and celebrations of living a Christian life.

: Evaluate the challenges and celebrations of living a Christian life. We know the Christian life includes the highs and lows with the joys and difficulties of the challenges and celebrations we experience as Christians. Honestly evaluating all aspects of our Christian life can allow us to better respond to the challenges and view them as opportunities while rejoicing in the celebrations that should resound with our praise to God. Activity #3: Christian Life Responses Read Book 4 (Beyond Personality: Or First Steps in the Doctrine of the Trinity) in the textbook by Lewis titled Mere Christianity. Then answer the following questions: What is the difference between making and begetting? What is the difference between “Bios” and “Zoe” (Making and Begetting)? What happens when we pray? What does Lewis mean when he calls theology an experimental science (The Three-Personal God)? What does Lewis mean when he says that God is outside of time? If we understand that God is beyond time, what difficulties does it solve (Time and Beyond Time)? How does Lewis understand that the statement “God is love” demands that the Trinity be at least two persons? What is the “good infection” (Good Infection)? How does Christ help us overcome our obstinate character (The Obstinate Toy Soldiers)? Describe the essence of each of the two notes (Two Notes). What are the two approaches to pretending? Describe the two discoveries that Lewis makes (Let’s Pretend). What does Christ demand of each Christian? What is the function of the call to perfection (Is Christianity Hard or Easy?)? How does the illustration of a father’s joy at his child’s first steps illustrate God’s view of the Christian life (Counting the Cost)? What did it cost God to create people who could have rebellious, truly free wills (Nice People or New Men)? Why must a person surrender himself or herself to God to attain his or her greatest potential (The New Men)?

Construct a biblical and personal worldview regarding our views of God, humanity, ethics and other areas.

Construct a biblical and personal worldview. Each of us holds to a worldview whether we can define and defend it or not. This objective marks a challenge to carefully consider, in a way that we can detail, our personal worldview regarding our views of God, humanity, ethics and other areas. Writing our worldview helps us to articulate what we believe and work on the process of defending our worldview in the face of opposition from many sources as we attempt to live out what we believe. Learning Activity #2: Personal Worldview Paper Read Chapter 9 of your textbook by Curtis titled Transformed Thinking: Loving God with All Your Mind. Write a 2 page paper that provides responses to Questions 1-5 on page 176-177 and lists five statements that summarize your worldview. It is important that these statements should be defended and justified based on the readings for this course. What can you write in this paper from your work in the course? Review your paper after writing and ask yourself this question: could I have written this paper before the course began, or does this reflect my efforts over the past five weeks? To achieve maximum points for content and analysis, the following elements need thoroughly addressed: Analytical responses to Questions 1-5 on page 176-177 of the textbook by Curtis. At least five statements summarizing your worldview. Defense of statements evidenced through critical thinking of the courses reading.

Human Growth and Development Article Analysis

Article Analysis Of major concern to educators and psychologists alike is the relationship of childhood poverty and deprivation on suppressed cognitive development, executive functioning, and attention. Further, recent research suggests that childhood poverty also can play an important role in negative health outcomes and attitudes towards aging that extend into adulthood. Discuss the research of this topic and suggest effective interventions for using childhood as a springboard for promoting healthy aging.
